Anyone apply for or been on an NSLI program?

I found it slightly odd that that there was no space for extracurriculars/sports/etc. in the online application, in addition to the presence of several typos and a space to upload a teacher recommendation when it was supposed to be mailed in. If it weren't sponsored by the Department of State, I probably wouldn't even have bothered applying, but it's hard to turn down a chance to study abroad for a month for free. Thoughts?

I too found it strange that for every .pdf form that one downloads, there is also a place to “upload your attachment(s) here”. Do they want us to scan and upload all the completed forms? Is it acceptable to simply mail in all completed forms, postmarked by Feb 2?

Also, where exactly are we supposed to upload the .pdf of our transcript? Because the instructions page tells us to do that, but I couldn’t find the place within the online application where I’m supposed to upload my transcript. (I finally put it in Item 8 of the “Self Introduction” page, because that fits with the order the instructions are given in.)

^ I honestly can’t give any definitive answers to those questions. I was mainly concerned about the lack of a place to list ECs/sports/etc., since that should be a major part of any application. It could be detrimental to some people who have a less than spectacular academic record, and still very damaging to those of us who have a great academic record as well as an extensive list of ECs.

I applied as well… I heard it was super competetive.
The thing is, you’re supposed to scan all of them except for the official transcript & recommendation. When do they do the interview rounds?

I’m not sure about when the interviews will be, but those offered one should probably hear about it soon. I emailed them and they said that they had about twice as many applications as spots, and that this was the first year of the program (not sure about the latter… she worded it funny). Sounds promising to me.
