NSLI-Y 2017 - 2018

@NerdTron In scrolling through last year’s CC thread, I believe the first year notifications (Russian and Hindi) came out on April 5th. Things seem to be moving faster this year though, so I guess it’s possible that they could come out earlier too if Mandarin and Korean are indeed released early.

Has anyone gotten anything?

Nothing here. The wait continues.

They usually send emails in the afternoon so there’s some hope

CC is full of folks with Ivy dreams but that’s not us, DS’s top choices are actual safeties but now, after waiting for the NSLI-Y results, I think I can empathize with those that are going for “reach for everyone” schools. DS wants this opportunity so much and I want it for him so badly and I feel so helpless because there’s nothing I can do to help… just wait with the rest of you…

@3scoutsmom Waiting with us isn’t so bad

@zoompython I certainly didn’t mean to imply that I wasn’t in company here!

^^^ good company - too late to edit!

Hopefully tomorrow!

Anxiously awaiting notification about Russian Year! I am a parent of twin sons. One is an alumni of NSLIY Arabic Jordan summer (last year). The other applied for Russian year for this coming year. Good luck to all summer applicants still waiting! I’ll be sitting here, biting my nails, stalking my son’s email…

I don’t know if this will be useful, but last week (14th I think) they sent me an email telling me that I had a missing page in the medical forms (I have since corrected that issue). Hopefully they will send out decisions really soon then?

Today feels like a good day for some results NSLI-Y!

@saxophonewizard Couldn’t agree more

@laurantwins Do mind telling us a little more about the Jordan program your son went on? My D is dying to do attend this program. I have never been to Jordan, but family members are urging me to use caution regarding this particular country. They have safety concerns. Are their concerns warranted?

NSLI-Y is sadistic

to people that got NSLIY summer scholarships: how would participating in NSLIY specifically help the goals you have set for your future?

@nadinerahim I haven’t gotten one but I really do hope I will. I’m not a fortune teller so I can’t tell you specifically how it will help my future goals. However, I think that everyone who gets a NSLIY scholarship has one additional skill set to help them stand out in application pools and one additional skill set to use in the workplace. Sure, your career can be built around one of the languages but most of us are more likely to use language as a a tool.

Has anyone received news for the China or Korea programs?

Nothing yet.

@zoompython Still nothing. I really feel like they’re going to be released this week though. My guess is Friday the 24th. Hopefully earlier.
