NSLI-Y 2017 - 2018

@AdventuresAbroad I’m in Korea summer but i have a friend who applied to year so I’m keeping tabs! My guess is this week 12-14th. I’m hoping it’s sooner rather than later and that you guys get your notifs!! Praying for ya’ll!

Thanks @olivia77 ! But from how many people received their acceptances today, seems like we’re probably out of luck…

@AdventuresAbroad Wait Korean year notifs are out? Why is no one posting? These forums used to be so much more active

@Olivia77
I agree, I just think that most of the traffic has gone onto facebook. You should join the “Ask NSLIY Alumni” page!

IF YOU’RE GOING TO SUZHOU WITH AMERICAN COUNCILS, THERE IS A FACEBOOK GROUP THAT YOU CAN JOIN!

Is anyone by any chance doing the Arabic STARTALK program at BYU?

“It has been rumored for months that China will soon require visa applicants to apply in person and have their fingerprints taken. As of now this policy is in a “trial phase”.”

I read this recently somewhere, so find out in advance. I am sure NSLI-Y people are on top of this potential issue.

They told my son that he would not be applying for his visa until July! He lieaves the middle off August for China academic year. I’m sure he would not mind taking a trip down to NYC or D.C.

Anyone else going to Xiamen, China with U Delaware?

@amaevillas I probably am! I was going to apply for the U of NM program, but it filled up.

@Rednib cool! I apply to the UNM program as well, but got waitlisted. That’s ok, because I’ll be attending the program at BYU! I’m so excited! I hope that with doing STARTALK, it helps with my application for nsliy next year.

@amaevillas That’s awesome! Congratulations. I am also hoping that STARTALK will increase my chances to get into NSLI-Y. I’m a little worried because I haven’t actually applied yet to the BYU program, but hopefully it won’t fill up before I get mine in.

Heyyo I am a changzhou academic year finalist! @soundcheck1 Is your son already on facebook? there is a group chat for all of the china academic year finalists on facebook

I wonder if USA-South Korea-North Korea tension will affect Korea summer or AY programs?

@websensation i’ve been wondering the same. i’m guessing no? but it will be interesting to see anyway…

Hey guys is anyone going to Rabat, Morocco for the Arabic year program? I would love to talk and get to know some of you!

Hey everyone! Anyone who is going to the Mandarin programs (or who is looking through the thread & considering NSLI-Y for next year), I thought I’d drop this in here. https://youtu.be/vwbU40Wqm90

Anyone else get the email today about the rule change about getting your own VISA? China at least has changed the rules and visas have to be applied for at your local consulate. So the passport and and application are being sent back to us. This can’t be mailed in it has to be delivered in person by you or your ‘agent’ and then picked up four business days later.

Thankfully it’s only a three hour drive to our area consulate in Houston and we were planing to drive through Houston on Wednesday anyway but this means and extra night on our way back, glad DH has some buffer in his vacation time!

@3scoutsmom I did read about that. Are you talking about China summer program or Academic Year program? For Academic Year program, they have not yet emailed us anything about China visas.

This is for the summer China program but I should think it would apply to all programs. Where did you read about it?
