Good job to all! If you didn’t get it this year, there is always next year for all underclassmen.

congrats to everyone who made sf! i’m a semifinalist for a summer program :slight_smile:

@Addison15 I am!

Honestly everyone who was rejected i say we use this as a chance to really improve on aspects that will make our application for next year better. We can take themselves by surprise if we work hard?

@Addison15 I am an Arabic summer semi-finalist as well!

For Russian, which countries does each “level” go to? So what locations are for beginners, intermediates, etc.

I got accepted as a semi-finalist for China Summer, it’s lit

welp, I got rejected :frowning: unfortunately, I’m a senior so I can’t apply again. but congrats to those who did make it <3

Semi-finalist China year!

semi for arabic AY!

Any semi-finalists for mandarin academic year?

@violetartist There’s always CLS! It’s a college version of NSLI-Y. Best of luck to you, and congratulations to the semi-finalists!

Hey @katcatkat it can change from year to year, and some locations will serve multiple levels. My impression is that some more proficient students have gone to Estonia, while beginners may be more likely to head to Russia or Moldova. If you browse through the Russian section of NSLI-Y Interactive you might get more insight: http://www.nsliy-interactive.org/

hello! i know that there are a couple blogs online that provide advice to semi-finalists, but do any of you have advice for prepping for the interview?

I’m a semi-finalist for Indonesian summer this year! For those who were rejected don’t worry I wasn’t a semi-finalist last year but I wrote more honest open essays and I am this year :slight_smile: (Even though my grades went way down lol!)

@kanagawa I was a semi-finalist last year and honestly I didn’t do much preparation. This year that’ll be different though LOL. Just be prepared to answer questions about your family life. They also asked me “what if” questions about interactions with my host family like what would I do if all the other NSLI participants were allowed to go out one night but my host mom wouldn’t let me. I think she also asked me a few questions about school related things. Don’t be too tense and make sure to give detailed answers. Know why you want to study the language you’re going for. They don’t know anything about you because they don’t ever see your application so don’t assume they know what language you’re doing, where you’re from, etc.
