I guess I’m going to have to go around asking people “are you Soresubject?”…might be kinda weird, haha.

Has AFS sent you any additional info since the conference call?

The only info I have recieved in addition to the conference call is my regional get together day info, my passport instructions and a survey checking to see what information I retained from the conference call

Congratz!!!

congrats blanklives! I’m in for the semester… but i’ll see you over the summer if you are going to Sogang Uni!

blanklives thats awesome!!

Hi, I just found this forum and just wished to say that I got in for a semester to Korea! YAY! I’m really excited while kind of nervous since the area where I live and go to school doesn’t take part in any study abroad programs. My school doesn’t even offer Korean so I’ve been on self study for half a year. Ahhhhhh, I still can’t believe I got accepted ^^

Ps: congrats to everyone who got accepted!

Congratulations to you chick199 I agree it doesn’t feel real…

Now I’m nervous. Does everyone take the oral proficiency test? I think I marked that I have some prior knowledge of the language…but that was because I’d been studying Korean for awhile (on my own) and knew how to read/write Korean…Ahh I’m nervous!

Don’t be nervous. I think they just want to be able to measure how much you’ve improved throughout the program, because I’m pretty sure you have to take the test again once the program’s over.

Thanks everyone  I still can’t believe they accepted me…

@chick199, i’m nervous too! Everything just sorta hit me a few days ago… my mom and I have now been doing intensive training in korean to try to prepare lol. I know so little now. Congratulations on being accepted! :)

I hope everyone has the best summer of their lives!!

This may seem like a silly question; however, I’ve done a bit of searching and cannot find a definitive answer.

Regarding the announcement that all applications for the “2010-2011 session” are closed, is that session inclusive of the 2011 Summer program? I hadn’t figured that the applications for the Summer program would be closed so far in advance (seeing as the 2010 Summer program has not yet begun).

Also, as the website is very vague, is the location assigned to you after you have been accepted, or when applying, do you select specific locations?

Finally – and not to come off as having done no research myself – will I have any chance of being accepted as an incoming junior who has not done anything spectacular, not to mention anything in the field of foreign languages or culture. My profile is simply that of the plain academic (4.0 GPA and, although I assume it matters for nothing, a 99-100 in Spanish over my two years of high school) with volunteering and some school clubs (nothing particularly outstanding, again).

Thanks!

The application for Summer 2011 and 2011-12 semester and year programs will be posted late this summer/fall. Students list language preferences. They have no choice of locations. It is hard to say what the admission criteria is but there is no application fee, so go for it!

It’s difficult to say exactly what the organization is looking for. I believe they’re looking more towards how you’d handle yourself in a foreign location without mummy and daddy around. I had pretty much the same description as you and got accepted for the semester long Korean program for this year. I didn’t accept for academic reasons, but I’m planning on reapplying this year =D
