Does anyone know generally how many of the Honors College applicants get invited to the NSP weekend.
I believe in previous years it was about 40. I think invitations go out mid to late January.
Long time lurker, but I finally am able to answer a question! My DS received his NSP weekend invitation/packet yesterday via Priority Mail. We live in SC. The cover letter mentions that there are 34 finalists that they “would like to meet in person for an extensive, day-long interview process.” It goes on to say that you must attend and participate in National Scholars Weekend February 23-25 to be eligible for selection to the scholarship and program. Good luck to everyone!
@ProudSCMom Congratulations!
@ProudSCMom Congratulations to your son. 34 finalists is a really small number. Your Son must be a really special student and person. Congratulations.
Congrats @ProudSCMom ! Would you mind posting his stats so we can have an idea of the applicant pool this year? Hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks! I’m excited for him. It looks like a great program if he makes it through the interview weekend.
Stats Highlights: 1550 SAT; UW GPA 4.0; W GPA 5.3+; NMSF; many AP and above AP classes
Just curious, anyone else receive an invitation yet? I know the out of state invitations take a little longer
@Virgmom nothing here yet. It would be really nice if the colleges would also notify those who do not get selected by email so we are not left waiting.
Nothing in Alabama. I would think the letters would be here by now if S.C. got them Friday.
Here are the bios of the 8 Finalists from last year. What a neat and diverse group. http://newsstand.clemson.edu/mediarelations/eight-students-selected-for-national-scholars-program-at-clemson-university/
@S18D20mom and @Virgmom I guess your child didn’t get an invite? DD has similar stats to previous poster but no letter. Maybe she will get Honor College
@bama2000 no NSP invite for us. DS has similar stats too…1550/34/4.0, lots of EC. I’m guessing they are not the right demographic or major. For DS it could have been essays too as that’s not his strength. Still holding out for Calhoun.
Nothing for us. DD has a 35/4.0 valedictorian. Lots of EC and community service. Has been accepted ED to Notre Dame and invited to attend an all expense paid recruitment weekend. I guess every school is looking for something different.
Same boat for my Daughter. No invite with 35 ACT, 4.0UW EC strong etc. But as mentioned above with only 75 or so invites from weekend so very long odds even for high stats kids.
Now just hoping for 2/15 Calhoun admission.
Congrats to the “Son” who made it! It sounds like it came down to more than just stats to get an invite for sure! My DD had 34 ACT 1560 SAT NMSF (should be finalist) Took 12 APs over high school years and made 4 or 5s on all exams taken so far. Should be named valedictorian. Plenty of ECs. Essays weren’t as strong we know because she got acceptance letter in early December and didn’t know she could apply to Calhoun before she was accepted. She threw the essay together over night. The honor would have been nice but I think all the kids with these stats will be just fine.

The NSP decision letters are arriving. My son received his today via Priority Mail. Very excited as it looks like he will be going to Clemson in the fall and benefit from a wonderful program!
Hello! Does your son have any advice about how to be successful with the interview weekend? Or maybe what to expect?
