Hello NU forum,
First post here. S19 has NU on his short list of schools he’s applying to via QuestBridge RD (not ranking). He was a CPS last year. It’s definitely a far reach, but he’s attracted to the RTVF program.
- How active is the RTVF alumni base in LA compared to other non-CA film programs (ie Wesleyan, UT Austin)?
- How helpful is NUEA (Northwestern University Entertainment Alumni West) in supporting new grads?
We know Wes is an entirely different environment than NU, but the Wesleyan Mafia is real. I’m hoping NU has something similar.
Sounds like there isn’t much out there in terms of recent info.
Unanswered emails to NUEA, 3 search hits (2009 and earlier) in the NU forum, last website update in 2014/15, and the most recent tweet being 9/2017 lead me to believe the organization has dissolved or is extremely inactive.
Likewise, searching for “purple mafia” yields a few CC 2007 posts that say “it’s a real thing…” and “they run LA…” and one 2017 article (about drama/acting alumni).
If anyone has any recent stories of (or links to) RTVF alumni working in entertainment in above the line roles, I’d be grateful.
@romns116 - here are a few links below that should help. There are many famous alumni on both coasts. Seth Myers, Stephen Colbert, Princess Meghan Markle (who used to be on a popular tv show, Suits), David Schwimmer (Friends), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld), and the list goes on and on.
