NU Application supplement & NUin Program

Hi everyone,

D3 is beginning her college search and Northeastern is one of her top choices. We have 2 questions we could use input on…

  • We have heard that there is a supplement to the common app, but our daughter can't seem to find it on the common app. Does anyone know if there is one and if so where it is located on the application?
  • Anyone have a sense of how a willingness to participate in the NUin program might effect a students chances of admission? It sounds like they may gear this to students whose nubers (ie SAT's) might otherwise

Thanks for your input.

If your D is interested and willing to go in NUin, I’d list that on your app as it might end up being her ticket in to the school. Admissions and all these extra programs into NEU has changed so quickly over the last couple years, so I’d say it’s hard to say what their criteria are for any program. The school has gotten much more competitive as well, so I’d say don’t close out any options at this point. ED, ED2 has affected admissions as well.

Apparently, they made an executive decision to get rid of it so it’s no longer part of the application. It never existed until this year so if I had to speculate, they probably didn’t see much value from it in the applications they saw so far. Either way, it’s no longer there but sorry for any confusion! They didn’t do a good job communicating the recent change :confused:

Thanks for the clarification - very helpful!

It sounds like you have some familiarity with NU, do you have any sense whether they take NUin students ED? Our daughter is considering applying ED with a willingness to go NUin to increase overall chances.

@Davidbf If you look back at last year’s ED cycle, some kids were accepted, some NUin, or some deferred to regular admission.

If offered NU In for the ED round, it is non-binding.

That is really interesting to know. Thanks!

@Davidbf
There is space on the application for an additional optional essay. At least there was last year. My son decided to add one after he applied, on the portal. He applied with NUin as his first choice. He’s in the program now and loves it! The kids are all very independent, bright and many have previous international experience. Very diverse group of kids. So there may be other things they look for in applicants to begin abroad. It’s a lot for an 18 year old, but travel really is the best teacher and the opportunities my son has had with the program are pretty amazing. It’s an exceptional program.

They disregard the are you interested in NUin question, checking yes doesn’t mean you necessarily will get NUin and they still admit students that checked no into NUin. I checked no, as did many of my friends here and we are in NUin.
