I'm having a tough time deciding between the two engineering schools. I was accepted to both civil engineering programs and am wondering which one is best. The only thing is if engineering turns out not to be what I wanted, I want to have solid choices other than engineering. Thanks!

Ha! I just posted this a couple of days ago to someone, but it will work for you as well:

My D faced that choice back in 2004. She was admitted to NU, Purdue, Rose Hullman,Iowa State, and UIUC, and then narrowed the choice down to UIUC and NU.

She set up an appointment to talk to someone at NU engineering that was in her discipline, that did undergrad at UIUC, and Grad work at NU. It was actually just the luck of the draw that the Prof went to UIUC - the purpose of the appointment was to talk to someone in the Dept about NU.

Needless to say, the Prof was very helpful, and discussed NU vs. UIUC. My D decided the smaller class sizes, and smaller campus would be a better fit for her, and since every happy story should have a happy ending, I ran into that Prof at my D’s graduation and thanked him for the extra direction!

So, check out the NU web pages, call couple of Prof’s and set something up!

(That same visit BTW worked to also help her select her dorm for the next 4 years.)

So, I recommend you try and set something up, talk about what is important to YOU!

Good Luck, and Go Cats!
