NU ISP Question

Exactly how hard is it to get into this program? Has anyone gotten into to it on here?

Is there a lot of competition for this program in general? compared to HPME?

If you PM the poster FindAPlace you may get some answers. Her son is starting the program this fall.

If you ask, they’ll let you in as long as you have pretty good science/math test scores and many NU admits have them anyway. Class size has never been an issue due to its (perceived) rigor.

ISP is great but rigorous. Some people drop out after the first quarter. As far as admission goes, there’s no comparison. Let’s put it this way: small minority of NU students want to be ISP but every premed wish he/she were HPME. Many HPMEs chose it over HYPS

To add to Sam Lee’s (perfect) answer: There is no comparison at all to HPME.

So if you had good math/science scores, if you got accepted into NU, you would also get accepted into ISP?

I guess I am just wondering is there a lot of competition for the program or is it something that you have to have good scores/grades for.

Hi, I actually did ISP my first quarter. I don’t think it was particularly hard to get into- only people that are qualified for ISP would ever want to do something so insane in the first place. I had exceptional science and math grades and test scores from HS, so I’m sure thats why I got in…its also why I went to Northwestern in the first place, so it’s kind of funny I stopped the program after 1 quarter. Not only was it ridiculously hard, it was also too time consuming- there are rarely any people in ISP with a social life so it really wasn’t for me. I ended up graduating with a degree in religious studies, it drove me as far away from science as possible :)

^!!! How do you intend to make a living with your religious studies degree? !!! (sorry for digression But I am outrageously surprised)

How do you intend to make a living with your smugly superior attitude?

Me?
I was just asking a question o.o

lol dawncoming,
If you go to grad or professional school, I’m sure your undergraduate degree influences future job prospects dramatically less so than if you only have a bachelors.

No wongtong, not you. Dawncoming.

LOL Did I seem as if I mean to be offensive?? LOL :(

You don’t need to try to be so. Undergrad major alone won’t ever make you much money. And if you don’t go to grad school, pretty much any major will do.

Oh, um, I’m currently attending Johns Hopkins getting my masters in health policy and PhD in bioethics. Starting salary for the bioethics consulting I intend to do is in the 6 figures. Thats how I’ll make my living, thanks for the concern.

Student of Zoloths?

yes, she is awesome.

Yup. Grats on the sweet gig at Hopkins. I’m considering a JD/MPH at Georgetown Law/ Hopkins. You like the faculty?

I havent started classes yet, but the program directors have been super helpful and informative…its a really great program and really really personal. MPH is kind of different from MHS though so I’m not sure how great of a source I am for you, but the Bloomberg school is gorgeous and right on the med campus.
