NU (Medill) vs. NYU

I know that Northwestern is more academically rigorous and prestigious than NYU but I was just wondering as Journalism major which would be a better option.

Obviously Medill is on the top of the list of journalism schools but would internships be more widely available in New York, where you could go to school and internship at a big magazine/newspaper simultaneously?

I've always just thought when it comes to Journalism the hands on experience and internships are almost just as important as the education in terms of getting jobs after graduation. I'm definitely leaning towards Medill but can anyone offer some insight or input?

I don’t know much about journalism, but I do know that Chicago has so many opportunities for internships.

Medill, via alumni connections, has probably the broadest reach into newsrooms of any school in the nation. NYU is not remotely as connected. Even in NY, Medill alumni in the field far outnumber NYUs.

In the one term Journalism Residency (usually junior year) you’ll intern at a newspaper, magazine, broadcast or online venue and function as an employed reporter/writer. No fetching coffee. The real deal.
