Thanks, Sam Lee and tenisghs. That was informative.

Sorry tenighs, but what about my question?

"I emailed UG admissions to ask to transfer into SESP so I could double major with WCAS, my accepted school. They said they brought the file to be reviewed, but in the end, will I still be able to take the freshman seminar that has already been chosen for me?"

Hi Dfleish, I'm sorry I missed your question. I have no idea how UG admissions will look at the process. If you don't hear from UG admissions by September 1 about the interschool transfer, I would definitely contact them. It is a long and complicated process. You told them at the right time, but I would also contact them if you haven't heard anything about the transfer. What made you switch into SESP so quickly, I'm just curious?

I already heard back from them and the transfer was accepted. I wanted to dual major in the LOC program, which I heard about right after I was accepted and it sounded like I would enjoy it. Now I am only concerned with my freshman seminar, which has already been picked. I want to take it but I don't know if I'm allowed.

If you are in SESP, you do not need to take a freshman seminar. Contact the people who are responsible for the program. They will take you off the registration list.

But I want to...lol

I am pretty sure you can still take it. I've had friends from schools outside of Weinberg that have taken freshmen seminars. I am not sure exactly who you would talk to. I would try talking to the registrar and maybe e-mailing the professor to get consent to stay in the class.

Dfleish, if you still want to take it, contact the CAS people who are responsible for the freshman seminar program. I'm sure you will be allowed to take one class. But you won't need to take two freshman seminars (like I had to when I was still in CAS my freshman year)

what cell phone carrier is generally the best for campus/evanstan area?
im currently with verizon, but am thinking to switch to tmobile seeing that they have a 1000 anytime unlimited night/weekend deal for $40.

i skimmed through the whole thread and i didnt find the answer to this question. i might have missed it--sorry/thanks in advance!

We have a Sprint Tower at Northwestern. People who use Sprint have the best reception. TMobile and Verizon are okay, but they may not work inside certain buildings. This is what I have to deal with.

how about cingular?

I am currently a Cingular user, but it's great where I live (Michigan), but not so great in Evanston. I can still make phone calls, but the reception inside buildings is pretty poor.

I read in the Daily Northwestern that T-mobile was putting a tower up right next to campus.

Tenisghs, in your experience, do people tend to use cell phones only rather than room phones? Is it even worth it to have a room phone?

Themock, I will definitely invest in a room phone (leave your cell phone number to your friends and buds) if you're living in a single. If you're living in a double, one of you will buy the phone and set a message accordingly (however you want). You may have office personnel or formal contacts, and you rather have them call your room number (with an answering machine). I currently don't have voicemail on my cellphone, so I definitely give out my room number to others, so that they can leave messages. The last thing I need is to pick-up my cell phone, talk like a laid-back college student, and realize an important call is on the other line.

ey..i was thinking about applying to a music major ( btw im not sure what kind of music major, though. i may be doing music education ) at northwestern particularly because i have the grades to go w/ it that fulfills northwestern's standard in a way . i was wondering if there is alot of musical activities that take place at the university such as choirs, acapella groups, musical clubs, etc. Also, how is the music program in Northwestern in general? Would I be better off just appyling to a local university and get a music major there, and just purse a career? Or should I actually go to a prestige university and get a fulfilled music education and just ackowledge myself that I will definitely have a job offer just because of the fact that I graduated from a university like Northwestern.?

How is the music education in general? Do you recommend any other universities that might have a similar reputation such as Northwestern but also withstands a great music program.? How is Northwestern's fin. aid for music majors?
anyways. here are my stats

Took the most challenging courses available since sophmore year. ( Freshmen year, they would not allow me to enroll me in honor classes because of my 8th grade grades, but apparently, I showed them up with excellent grades during the freshmen year).
ok.. ok.. fine my grades aren't the best like i mentioned the paragraph above. but I was hoping my Ecs would save me.

Yes, I do not have a whole gigantic list of awesome Ecs like other people, but I have stuck to these ecs consistently and incessantly, and I have enjoyed these activities undoubtedly.
So what do you say are my chances?

This isn't a chances thread gj.

ey. im sorry uc_ benz but i thot i could post my stats and ask him what if he thinks of me. in addition to my myriad questions because I thought it might give him a better idea if northwestern would suit my musical expectations in a university?. but neways. if the thread starter decides he wont evaluate my chances and just answers my questions. than i will still be more than happy. and it is not you to tell me if it is a chance thread or not. i dont see any warning or notices in the beginning post that mentions dont post your stats and ask me for your chances. but if in fact the thread started did not want to stats and requests for evaluation, it is him who tells me that. not you. you have no right to say anything that concerns me. Mayb you might have the right to tell me off or something, if I said something offending. but thats a different case. please do not concern me again with your indirect comment. thanks

The first post in the thread says, "DO NOT ASK ME ABOUT YOUR CHANCES OF ADMITTANCE. I will ignore you."

ok im rly sorry den. i guess i really didnt pay attention and started being stubborn b/c sometimes i just know i have to be right which gets to be a venomous behavior. please forgive my ignorance
