Have the figures been reported yet? If so, WHAT ARE THEY??? If not, when…?

I expect them to be down, or I at least hope they are. -_-

yeah man i hope so to!

anyone else have a take on this?

[UC extends application deadline after computer glitch – latimes.com](UC extends application deadline after computer glitch)

says more applicants this year.

“About 2,600 were submitted between 6 a.m. and about 5 p.m. Tuesday.”

Wow… total bs.

…if anything, it’s probably more transfer apps. Statistics show that community colleges are becoming crowded due to the economy.
Plus, the reason why they even had more apps in was because of the 2 day extension.

Overall, I think there would be LESS apps in for freshman entering this year.

I doubt there will be fewer applications this year. As mentioned above, some California community colleges have had to stop accepting applications because they have exceeded their maximum enrollment. I have not yet heard any UC totals, but the CSU system received record numbers of applications - up 53% over last year - and at the same time they have to reduce enrollment by 40,000 students. Campuses that were not selective in the past will have no choice but to become selective this year. [CSU applications up 53% from last year – latimes.com](CSU applicant pool is up 53%)

With those two levels of California public higher education so severely hit, it seems likely that the increase in applications will also affect the UC system.

a-mom:

be careful interpreting the CSU press release. The only known fact is that apps were up in the first week of Nov, not that apps were up that much in total. It is highly possible that kids just applied earlier in the season – with no essay due, there is no reason not to. Instead of waiting until the last minute…

The final numbers are now in - the CSU received 609,000 applications for Fall 2010 - which is “only” a 28% increase over last year. The CSU currently enrolls about 450,000 students and has to cut enrollment by 40,000 students over the next two years. [CN&R > Local Stories > CSU flooded with applicants > 12.17.09](http://www.newsreview.com/chico/content?oid=1339406)

As with the UCs, these numbers look much higher because students - now more than ever - tend to apply to multiple campuses. The bulk of the increase is probably not due to thousands of students suddenly deciding to pursue a college education, but from the panic they will not be accepted with the enrollment cuts - so they decide to apply to a dozen or more campuses.

My guess (and it is only a guess) is that the UCs will experience a similar increase in multiple applications. Students who would have applied to 3 or 4 campuses will be applying to 6 or more “just in case.” Students who might have only applied to the CSU system and saw those CSU numbers in early November may be applying to the less-selective UCs (that they may have considered less desirable than the top 2 or 3 CSUs) especially those within commuting distance.

My feeling is that the total application numbers are not likely to go down, as the applicants above are hoping, but will increase significantly due to individual applicants applying to ever more campuses, while the overall number of individual applicants will not increase by much - the number of high school seniors is about the same this year as last.

The biggest effect may be an artificial increase in the “stats” of accepted applicants at the mid and lower groups of UCs (which already exists) that will send 2011’s applicants into a state of panic.

The total number of UC applications for Fall 2010 has now been released. The largest number of students ever have applied for admissions. The largest growth is in transfer applications. Freshman applications are up 2.4%, while transfer applications have gone up 17.5%.

I just got an email from UC Berkeley, but not really sure if I can confirm this as true.

Apparently, they said they got 50,000 applications to the university this year. X_x
