I lived in two places growing up–the first was a three-family apartment building that my father owned. We had 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. My brother and I each had our own bedrooms and my folks slept on a pull-out sofa.(Strange, I know.) We moved to a single-family home when I was 8. It had 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. The full bath was on the second floor by the bedrooms and the second (half bath) on the first floor.
The house we live in now is where we intend to stay until they carry us out. It has 3 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a full-bath off the family room, and a half-bath on the main floor. I’m spoiled–I really like the ensuite bathrooms.
Yes, our home has an en suite modest bathroom attached to our master bedroom. It’s further from the great room and two other bedrooms so few ever use it other than H and me. It is very nice not to be concerned that folks will be using that room.
I love the luxury of two bathrooms with toilets, sinks & showers. I am told they are only 3/4 baths if no tub, but that never made sense to me.
When we moved in our house had one full hall bath on the second floor, a half bath on the ground floor and an unpermited bath with the world’s tiniest shower in the basement. We we put the addition on the house a masterbath and laundry on the 2nd floor was my main priority. I also wanted to make the basement bath legal. Unfortunately you couldn’t fit a shower into the existing footprint and meet the code requirements and moving walls seemed like too much trouble given where the furnace and meters were located, so it became a half bath. In retrospect I’d figure out a way to make it a full bath because when the extended family is here we usually have someone sleeping in the basement.
Our first house (3 bedrooms) only had one bath - a broken toilet becomes an emergency. I put in a half bath on the ground floor.
