I’m currently a junior in high school. I’m taking AP Calc BC, AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science, AP World History, and CP English 3, along with tennis. I’m struggling in Compsci( I have an 88%, but I feel like I won’t be able to raise it), and I want to drop the class, which I would be able to do with nothing on my transcript. However, I’m worried that because it is junior year, colleges will see that I only took 4 academic classes, and dock off points for course rigor. Not taking the class will not affect whether I graduate or not. What should I do? Thanks!
You should talk to your school counselor and ask whether dropping AP Comp Sci will mean you do not get the “most rigorous” course designation.
Colleges don’t “dock points”, but they will take notice of whether or not you took the most rigorous courseload available.
@T26E4 I know I have an 88, but I’ve been getting Cs on my quizzes and I really do not understand compsci, it just doesn’t click. It’s only the beginning of the semester, so I know I’ll keep struggling.
Can you take another class (BTW, have you reached level 4 in a foreign language already?)
What colleges are you aiming for?
Have you talked with the teacher? Tried to get a tutor?
@MYOS1634 I got to Spanish 3 sophomore year, but I decided to stop taking Spanish because I REALLY REALLY hated it. I’m considering Cal Poly SLO and Purdue, as well as some UCs for engineering. I haven’t talked to the teacher, but I will talk to him today or tomorrow. I’m not sure if I can take another class this semester, but I will be able to take 2 extra classes next semester, which should make up for 4 classes this semester.
