Number of Ed applicants

Seriously? A whole year?

Hi, thanks for posting the data on ED.

Based on what was presented here, recruited athletes (choosing ED) fair well. How competitive and deep are their teams compared to bigger Ivies like Harvard? Does Dartmouth recruit mainly nationally ranked athletes or state champs? I assume Dartmouth is DI for all sports…true?

Dartmouth definitely does… I am one of the top 30 people in my state for cross country. I wasn’t close to being recruited. I applied ED anyways though.

Daiviko, Did you get in or are you an applicant now? Are you running cross-country or will you if you attend?

I am an applicant now. If I get in, I will definitely try and get on the team.

Good luck on both accounts!

Getting in is first and foremost :P

"22% sounds great until you contemplate how it breaks down:

Recruited athletes: 100% chance
Legacies: 30% chance
URMs: 44% chance
The unhooked: 6-7%

I figure the unhooked in the pool have a slightly higher chance than the unhooked in the RD pool, which will probably be under 6% this year. Depressing."

While this is depressing, it is also statistically inaccurate. I will use the Dartmouth numbers as an example.

Total applications: 1785
Number of predicted acceptances: 400
Recruited athletes: 140 (someone said 35% of ED acceptances are athletes. Also, let’s assume the athletes get in at a 100% admit rate)
Number of predicted regular applicant acceptances: 260
Admit rate for regular applicants: 13.4 percent

Because the athletes are being admitted at a 100% admit rate, we aren’t competing against them. We are competing against each other. For this reason, to give an accurate admit rate prediction for regular applicants, we must remove the athletes from the applicant pool. So,

Regular applicants: 1645
Regular applicant acceptances: 260
Regular applicant admit rate: 16%

So, it didn’t help THAT much, but it’s an important thing to consider, especially those who are bitter about the recruited athletes. You aren’t competing against them, so don’t worry.
