I know for a fact that BWMT09 is currently a freshman MT major at BW, because he was very nice to the group of CC parents who met him on audition day there! He is helpful for those of you who plan to visit! He will also willingly answer your e-mail questions.

Yes I did my auditions last year. beastar, I didn't find out till the first of April for hartt, but from what I remember some people here recieved their letters a few days earlier than i did. And to clarify, this is Tim so it would be his.

Edit: thanks for the help ericsmom ;)

ckp- thanks so much for your post. I am a planner, but also know that sometimes life gets in the way. As a parent it is comforting to hear that eventhough there are times when we and our children have hard stretches, good can things re still possible outcomes. I am so happy to hear that you have refound your passion.

i heard from hartt a little earlier than april first last year.

i did 8 schools total. (CMU, Michigan, Syracuse, NYU, CCM for MT, Northwestern and Depauw for Vocal Performance, and Indiana as a back up).

I got michigan and NYU out of the way before christmas. got my acceptance to nyu on the 15th of december, and a rejection from michigan before that. i didnt get a chance to audition at any of the other schools. if you can swing it so that you get some done before christmas...ed or rolling (nyu and michigan respectively. i think ccm is rolling as well), then you can have a wonderful christmas. and if those dont work out, then you still have a hefty list of stuff in the spring, but getting all this out of the way first semester really lightened the load of stress for second semester.

chris

Chris has a good point about getting some auditions done before Christmas. We think it is good to spread them out. One thing it helps with is illness. If all auditions are scheduled in one week at unifieds and you happen to have a sore throat or bad cold, you are out of luck!

Anyone who wants ideas about colleges to do before Christmas, feel free to send me an e-mail (please not a PM on CC, as those stay full). It may take me a few days to get back, as I'm going out of town on business, but I'll be happy to help.

Eventually we'll post it all, but my son auditioned for 6 programs in the fall and originally planned to do 5 in the winter / spring (11 auditions total). In addition, he applied for and got accepted to 2 non-audition programs. After getting some great news before Christmas, he canceled 2 auditions and only did 3 more after Christmas (those schools who already had his application and our money, and airplane tickets had already been purchased).

So, in the end, he applied for 11 schools and auditioned for 9. Of those, so far, he has been accepted into 5 audition-required MT programs and 2 non-auditions schools. He has 2 rejections and has 2 that he still needs to hear from. We'll give you a full update when all of this is over!

I did Nazareth College, SUNY Buffalo, Point Park, CMU, UMich, Syracuse, and Ithaca all before Christmas... then SUNY Geneseo in February, and I also applied to Northwestern and SUNY Oswego as a safety... so 9 total.:)

Just to clarify the Hartt thing, I emailed them the other day because they have rolling admissions and I was getting nervous I hadn't heard and they said they have a 2 part admissions process and Hartt hadn't given them the audition results yet, but they like to send out all the letters before April 1, so they should arrive within the next 2 weeks at this point. Plus one of my guy friends auditioned there for clarinet and he has yet to hear either, neither has this other guy I know who auditioned for trumpet, so Hartt decisions in general haven't likely gone out. Good luck to all those still waiting! :)

I am bumping this thread up because with so many new people posting their acceptances it would be nice to know just how many mt schools and where everyone applied to. It would definitely be something that could be helpful for us with juniors this year.

Thanks.

My D applied to Bowling Green (after we visited campus she decided not to pursue it, so she never auditioned), Elon, Emerson, Ithaca, Marietta, Muhlenberg, Ohio Northern, Otterbein, Point Park, University of Northern Colorado and Wagner. Many schools used the common app which was nice, as she wrote one main essay, and just a couple of smaller ones. She was able to tweak the main one and use it at every school.
Some of these schools, though not mentioned here at CC as much as the big name ones are very interesting. If you would not mind living in a very small town, Ohio Northern is a program where the mt students seemed very happy. The program is small (I forget if they take 8 or 12 students per year), there are performance opportunities starting in your freshman year. They have guest faculty from NYC and around the world that come work with the kids. I know the musical they are mounting this summer will be traveling to Mexico this fall. It is a pretty campus, but isolated. It ultimately was not the choice my D made, but I think she would have been satisfied there too. I was happy that my D looked at the schools she did. I suggest that your rising seniors include some schools that you don't read about so often on CC. You may find some nice surprises.

I applied to 13 audition schools, and one non-audition. I only did 4 on campus auditions, the other 9 were in Chicago. My schools were: BW, CMU, Juilliard, Penn State, Rutgers, USC, Emerson, Webster, UMich, BoCo, UMiami, NYU and Otterbein. My non-audition school was Ohio University. If I were to do it over again, I would definitely try to get a few schools in during the fall. Gives you some good experience before the big rush of auditions, and it also helps with rolling admissions schools.

I applied to Oklahoma City University, Otterbein College & Indiana University (BA program - safety), initially. . . When I found out that Otterbein would be my very first audition, however, -- and it was my first choice school! -- I added Point Park (since the audition was the weekend before Otterbein) to the list.
As a junior, I had a TON of schools on my "list" (Ithaca, Syracuse, CMU, UMich, NYU, BoCo, etc.) But, when It came time for the audition season, I realized that I was pleased with the 3 schools to which I'd applied. In retrospect, I would've liked to audition at some of the other schools, but I have no major regrets. :-)
My advice to all of you Junior MT hopefuls is: Keep your options open... But, don't feel pressured to apply and audition at so many schools that it stresses you out, especially if you can't financially apply/audition/visit 12 schools. :-) I applied to 4, auditioned at 3 and was accepted to 2 (PPU & OCU), waitlisted for 1 (Otterbein). . . And I am a happy camper!

My final decision is still pending. May 1 is just around the corner! I will let you know...

Oops! I forgot to say that I cancelled my Indiana U. application after I made it into my first BFA MT program (PPU), since it was sort of my 'safety' school - only because it is a BA in Theatre, and I knew that I wanted the BFA. Anyway, just FYI. :-)

No one in reading this should forget the difference between genders. Girls generally need to apply to more places and more types of places than boys.

I'm a girl. :-) But, I definitely agree w/ you nytheatermom!!

I applied to 8 schools: Syracuse, Ithaca, Otterbein, Cornish College of the Arts, PSU, UArts, CSU Fullerton (non-audition) and OCU.
I was accepted at CSU Fullerton and Cornish and I'll be attending OCU in the fall as a theatre performance major.

I applied to 10 schools, all for MT:

On-campus:
UMich
Baldwin-Wallace
CCM
Otterbein
NYU CAP 21
Wright State

Chicago Unifieds:
Penn State
BoCo
Carnegie Mellon
Ithaca

I was accepted to NYU CAP 21, BoCo, and Wright.

My d applied/auditioned to 7 schools, offered acceptance to 3, one MT. (CCM, Shenandoah, CMU, Otterbein, BoCo, Ithaca, Syracuse) The MT was from one of her top choices, Shenandoah, and received the acceptance early. I completely agree with kegosnell (love the name!) in that you should not apply to so many that you get stressed. DEFINATELY have some saftey (non-audition) programs in your choices...my d did not and was searching for schools "just incase" until her first acceptance came in. (VERY stressful) There are many highly thought of programs that you do not audition for admission...check them out!! By the end of the long span of auditions, (on top of a very demanding schedule) we were all stressed..not to mention my d!!!! My advice is to space auditions out, if at all possible. Our schedule did not allow auditions to begin until January. It was a long three months, but very pleased with the outcome. Other advice, make sure you state on your application other possible majors, even undecided, as a second or third choice. With some schools, it you declare straight MT or acting, they will not consider you for anything else if you are not accepted into their program...we found this out the hard way with a couple of schools. Best of luck to all...and enjoy!

I applied for a decent amount and that seemed to work and i really liked having a fair amount of choices rather than no choice at all...mine were:

UW-Milwaukee- (accepted lib arts) MAJOR SAFETY! no plans of going but just to be sure.

Northern Kentucky University-(accepted, non auditioned BFA) I really REALLY liked this school and was very impressed with their facilities and though the school is non auditioned it seemed like a great program.

Wright State University-(accepted BFA) I probably would have ended up going here if I didn't make my final choice. I loved this school and the facilities and teachers seemed incredible.

Niagara University- (accepted BFA w/ $5500/year scholarship) never saw the school but had heard nothing but great things about their program. They were great about answering questions and sending things quick...

U-Mich (Accepted to school) I didn't even try for their program(i'm not MT and i just decided if i went there i would do psych) ...my family is a BIG mich family. I was excited to get into the school and my family was off the wall happy...it sucked telling them that i really didn't want to do anything but acting.

Roosevelt/CCPA- (rejected) this was a weird experience...at first they saw me in something and had severe interest but then at the auditions it was very clear the guy wasn't really feeling my audition and also it was kind of a bad enviorment to audition in as it was incredibly noisy in the hallway...anyways i didn't get it.

SUNY-Purchase (rejected) this really was the only rejection that i was sad about but I had gotten a bunch of other acceptances so i didn't feel that bad. It was my audition at Unifieds so I was proud of how i did...

NCSA- (accepted BFA) this was cool because when I auditioned i had really gotten a sense that they didn't like me and kinda walked out bummed out but they took me which was exciting...I decided though that the program wasn't for me which isn't to say I thought it was a bad program...just not for me.

UArts-(accepted w/7000/year scholarship and FINAL CHOICE!!!) this ultimatley the school i wanted and from the second i stepped on campus last year i knew that it was where i wanted to go...I love the school the city and the people that i met were really cool and friendly. The audition was my best out of all them and the man spent a good chunk of time with every person and really seemed genuine and nice. I can't wait till August!!

A big congrats to a fellow Wisconsinite, who is just down the highway from you! You have had a very successful audition season. What you felt at UArts is exactly the feeling new up and coming students should be in tune to. Some schools just literally speak to you. Best wishes to you!!
