number of people in household

When I filled out our FAFSA I did not include my oldest son ( age 21) on our FAFSA because he works, files his own tax returns and is not listed as a dependent on our tax return, but he is still living at home, still eats here, etc. He use to have his own apartment, but was laid off in 2009 for like 7 months and moved back home. Luckly he was called back and is now working again,

In reading over the FAFSA, I think maybe I should have included him as he does get his food and housing provided by us.

How does number of people in household effect the EFC and would it be worth correcting the FAFSA. I do not want it to look like I am trying to do anything shady.

Also how does correcting FAFSA information effect aid packages as far as filing date, if I made a correction now, would colleges consider us as not filing timely ?
