I'm applying to the University of Michigan and they allow up to 4 teacher recommendations (1 required) and 2 other recommenders. I currently have teach recs from my AP Bio teacher and another from my Economics/Student Gov. teacher. I also have one from a professor I did research with in my other recommenders section. I'm thinking of asking my Spanish teacher to do one as well. Is there such a thing as having too many letters of recommendation or am I fine getting another one? Thanks!

Yes!!!

UMich gets 47,000 applications. Unless your extra recommendations offer some extraordinary new perspective on you as an applicant, you are wasting the adcom’s time.

If the recommender can covers a different aspect of you, for sure you may include them. If it is going to be the same as the other 2, then it probably does not make difference to have it or not. It would not harm you if they are all good, but two would be more than enough if they are saying the same thing. Nevertheless, you are not supposed to know what your teachers would write on the letter.
@skieurope, UMich actually get over 50,000 applications last year. My D submitted 4 teachers’ recommendation to UMich last year (Math, Chem, Eng, Spanish). These teachers have taught her at different grades and 2 of them for 2 years. One was also the adviser for NHS.

My thinking was that my Bio teacher would be able to cover my interests in science, my student gov teacher would show my skills as a leader with that kind of a thing, and getting the spanish one would show my interest in Spanish as well as my leadership in spanish honor society. By the way @billcsho did she end up getting in and did she do early action?

@andyg223 Yes and yes. With scholarships too.
