Number of Recs and Where they come from

<p>How many recs is it ok to send to top colleges, specifically HPMS? I want to have 2 or 3 teacher ones, but then I also have one from a professor who taught me (this is almost mandatory since I did SO well in that class and he like loves me), one from a mentor from Harvard that I did research under this past summer, and one from a summer program that I went to this year (RSI), even though they only give 3 recs, so those are going to Harv/MIT/Stan. Is 5-6 too many?? </p>

<p>Chances are, the 2-3 teacher ones are the only ones that are going "by the form." The other ones will be fairly open and free letters, talking about different parts of my personality/talents/skills, although I may give the writers the form just so they know what is generally asked for on a college rec.</p>

<p>Do the colleges you're applying to accept supplementary recommendations? (I know that there are some colleges that will specifically say that they don't want applicants sending in extra recs/other material)</p>
