How many schools can you apply to using the common app? My son thought it said 20 schools is the max (He may be looking at applying to two different types of programs at different types of schools).

Thanks!

I’m not sure, but I think 20 is too many whatever the limit is. The amount of care going into each app will decrease the more applications you have and seubsequently lower chances at each school.

From the Common App instructions regarding college choices:
Of course it is possible to copy the application and submit another version. I am not sure if this will get twenty additional schools to send to or if the 20 is absolute across all versions.

Edit: According to postings on past threads. 20 is the absolute limit for any applicant.

Descartesz,

Thank you for letting me know. I emailed the common app with the questions, but they have not yet responded. Do they typically take long? It seems like an arcane system where for something so important we can not talk to a live person or at least ask on-line.

Also, if you fill out the registration information now for the common app, will that be retained or deleted once August 1 comes around?

How much time do you typically allot for answering supplemental questions?

Thank you

Anything entered now will be deleted.

Supplemental Questions: I assume you are referring to the school-specific supplements? It really varies, depending on the institution.

My kids had 3-4 core essays that seemed to be adaptable for almost every school supplement and scholarship application. So after those were developed, it didn’t take too long.

There are a few schools we came across that like to ask one-of-a-kind questions. I saw it as something of a litmus test - if my kid found the topics annoying, it probably meant the school was not a good fit.
