Ooh thanks! I feel silly now, haha.
Anyone hear from Bowdoin today?

I got off the waitlist Tuesday :D.

Accepted my spot on Wednesday, and got an acceptance e-mail on Thursday. They said to submit a deposit within 48 hours (making today, Saturday, my deadline), but the admissions packet they said they mailed still has not arrived yet!

I can’t submit my deposit without the little card and stuff (or at least I don’t think I can), so what should I do? :/

Call them asap.

Yes, call them.
For the record, though, I was able to pay my deposit online here: [Reply (Bowdoin, Admissions)](http://www.bowdoin.edu/admissions/reply/)
It could be that it only worked until May 1st, but I’m not sure.

Does Bowdoin notify us when they close the waitlist?

i believe that they do, but probably not until late june when the very last spots fill up.
did anyone hear over the weekend?

anyone heard anything?
any intl students got off the waitlist?

I just spoke to the dean of admissions and he said that so far the waitlist has had surprisingly little movement and that they intend to fill up the rest of the waitlist spots in the next 2 to 3 weeks. So I guess this is good news for those of us waiting to hear anything–it sounds like they still have quite a few calls to make

I don’t think there are too many spots left to fill - there are 465 people in the Class of 2015 facebook group. Although there are a few admins, there are also probably Bowdoin students without a facebook. I’d say 465 is probably a pretty accurate number, so that would leave only 20 spots.

well im sure there are people in the facebook group who arent attending…i joined those groups for all the schools i was accepted to and still havent left. also, they were looking for a class of ~480 so that leaves at least 15 spots.

I would interpret the Dean of Admissions’ statement about a lack of WL movment as meaning that Bowdoin did not have to go very deep into the wait list to hit its targets but that it is likely to lose some of its currently enrolled admittees to other schools that are still dipping into their WLs. I remember last year Bowdoin really overshot its target of 485 and had a class of 520 for a while but gradually lost a few to other schools and got a little closer to the target number of 485 but still were well over that number (hence the introduction of “quints” in some of the FY dorms). So WL activity may pick up a bit when that domino effect is better known but it probably will involve modest numbers. Let’s say that Bowdoin is now sitting on a FY class of 485 and 15 of those 485 accept WL offers from other schools in the next week or two, then there will be 15 new slots at Bowdoin. . .

Well, the Bowdoin Orient published a lot of useful info about this year’s waiting list. It’s pretty sure that there will be spots yet to fill. Last year Bowdoin admitted 1,183 students out of 6,018, and finally overshot enrollment goal by 30. This year only 1,022 students out of 6,554 admitted, given the yield rate provided (<30%) [AND also consider ED round, yield rate normally around 95%], the number finally enrolled should be around 465 [assume normal distribution!].

However I heard of cases of international students getting off the waiting list in the first week of May. That should be the first round of WL offers. I believe at this point of time Bowdoin has already filled all the spots. Now we should await the second round, which will only come if some enrolled students accept the waiting list of other colleges!

So I literally just created this account so that i could thank piginahat for posting that information after you talked to the dean of admission. It’s so nice to have more information about the situation! Thank you so much!!

In this same vein of sharing information, when I went to visit, I talked to the officer in charge of my high school’s state and she was so encouraging. It seems like, although they can only offer spots to a small percentage of the kids on the waitlist, they are usually able to accommodate most of the kids who make it really clear they want this… So if there’re 15-20 spots left, 8 or so would go to the people on this thread and that would leave 7-12 left for all the other people out there who want this just as much- Everybody wins! I wish you guys the best of luck and I’m we can all laugh together about this thread next year at Bowdoin… :)

has anyone heard of people getting called in the last week or so? it seems as if waitlist activity has stopped… and it’s making my last shred of hope about getting into bowdoin disappear. all this waitlist business is so disheartening :(

Heard about someone today so there is still hope!!!

Another week with little waitlist activities?

in off the waitlist with a hefty financial aid offer!

I’m just wondering, did you guys who got in off the waitlist do anything special to let them know that you really, really wanted in? I sent a letter to Bowdoin but that’s it… I wonder if I didn’t do enough

i wrote a letter and the dean said that it was a deciding factor in accepting me off the waitlist. i just turned down my offer though for financial reasons, so i hope the vacant spot goes to one of you guys!
