numbers to transfer into umass amherst

I’m currently a first semester student at a CC. I want to transfer to Amherst next . My first semester grades will be 3.45+ What are my chances?

Hello. It will depend on your major. The college of business and the college of engineering are treated a bit differently. You need to apply to them and state your interest in major before you can begin. I think if you wanted to major in say math you would be ok. But those parts of UMASS are a bit more competitive. You are going to be close. To me it would be worth the application fee to try. Good luck.

You should also apply to transfer to a local state college like Westfield, Worcester, Framingham, etc. (I am not sure where in MA your located.) . That way you can get your four year degree if UMASS does not work out. I think UMASS Lowell would be the same way but that might be slightly easier than Amherst.

Good Luck.

@MassDaD68 my gpa is actually going to be closer to 3.7. I’m applying after only 1 semester. I got a 1620 on the

sat and. Can you give me an updated chance?

@MassDaD68 I want to major in political science, sociology, psychology, or public health. Are hose tough to get into?

@hamza678 I think you would have a good shot at getting in as a transfer student. Nothing is guaranteed but I say you have a good shot. Your 3.7 gpa puts you on the edge. I think I last saw the average gpa was around 3.8. But remember, that is an average so the business and engineering students might be pulling that up. Your SAT is fine and will not hold you back at all. I do not believe the majors you mentioned are very competitive and that should help also.
Again, apply to a safety school at one of the city state schools just in case.
Good luck

Why the rush? I say go for it but if for some reason you don’t get in I’d recommend entering a MassTransfer program and getting your guaranteed admission after completing your 2 year degree.

The Mass Transfer program is very good and provides a very cost effective way to obtain a degree. I wish I could convince my son to try that route. But he seems too arrogant and elitist.
