omggggg how can it be this incredibly boring omgggggg

seriously who in the world cares about tridiagonal matrix algorithms, hessenburg form, the rayleigh quotient, or whatever. seriously, who does?

=/ Sounds fun to me…but I’ve never studied numerical analysis. Do tell.

stuff like this
[Inverse iteration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Inverse iteration - Wikipedia)
[Power iteration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Power iteration - Wikipedia)
[QR algorithm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](QR algorithm - Wikipedia)

ugh. i find most of my subjects fascinating enough that I’d even read wikipedia entries for what I learn even out of class. But this, is too boring for me to even want to do that… =/

Seems superfluous.

I was thinking of taking Numerical Analysis in the spring. I thought it was meant to be one of the most useful classes for people doing Applied Math

yup, it is one of the most useful classes for applied math (there is a lot of applied math research that’s exciting, but one has to go through some pretty dull material. and lots of people who take it are pretty old =/). I thought you were more into pure math. But maybe you’re not like Yank. :p

I’m a pure math major right, but I won’t be firmly decided until the end of the year. If I do switch to Applied math, then taking two quarters of numerical analysis would fill requirements for both that and the [Specialization in Computing](<a href=“Undergraduate Program | UCLA Department of Mathematics”>Undergraduate Program | UCLA Department of Mathematics) which I was thinking of doing anyway.

^Wow, interesting specialization. I wish the program at my school had that, though I’m also getting an applied math minor.

OMG aren’t you guys in college?

“tear my very feathers out” made me smile inside. i’m glad someone shares my pain, no matter how mentally excruciating it is.

that just makes me want to cry because it looks so painful. :(
