Why would you want to insult the Penn Nursing students and program? You apparently are missinformed......it is a selective program with a great reputation. As to back door........there is a joint program w/ Wharton & Nursing. I really don't like students who bash nursing considering the US has a huge nursing shortage. I hope you don't need the care of a nurse anytime soon. All nursing programs need more students and your bashing doesn't help.

step back, hazmat. you know me better than that.
all i meant was that i'm into medicine right now, and i might consider taking classes at nursing and maybe switching over there.
believe me, i know all about nursing's quality and the sweeping shortage of nurses accross the US. and i know you know me better than to think i would say anything as bad as what you just accused me of. gee.....

was it the smiley? i just like the smiley

EDIT: yeah, ok. maybe that didn't look so great. i wrote those three things entirely seperately, though. I thought it was funny that we only had 3 nurses to go with our 105 CAS/SEAS/Whartonites, is all

I'm glad you cleared that up........lots of folks accuse the Penn Nursing students of bringing down the stats of the entering class......being the easy program, getting into a hard school the easy way. None of those comments are valid and I have just decided to defend our nursing program and students on CC. I am proud of our program and its recent expansion. Any person who studies nursing is a hero in my book.

I know you don't usually post negatives but I am just really watching out for all those nurses at my school. They rock and we all need to recruit as many of them as we can.

couldn't agree more. thus, i'm considering nursing, if i get in.

It is a great program and I hope you get in and enjoy all of us backing you. I have met some amazing nursing school candidates and they are all smart and interesting. I know you will love Penn and Philly.

The nursing school at Penn sounds excellent, though I haven't read too much into it, people have told me of its great program. If I did not apply to CAS, I would have applied to the school of nursing, but several reasons made me choose to apply to the College over the nursing school: it seems as though CAS is more flexible, it seems as though nurses are very stressed especially today and I don't know if I could handle it, and outside of family members and a little personal research, I have not had much experience with the nursing (or even the medical) field. It sounds like a demanding career, and I would feel as though I would have to make the 'be all end all' decision of becoming a nurse if I do go to a nursing school.

If anyone could clarify or bring insight on the school of nursing, it would be most beneficial to us all!

Lots of nurses do teaching, research and administration. Some specialize and then attach to a specialty.........quite specific knowledge and skill.

yes, you could always get a career as a professor at a nursing school. also you could go to grad school for any science, really, and many nurses go on to become doctors. where's that "what can i do with my major" link. it might show something about nurses?

Nurses also work for insurance companies and law firms reviewing claims. They work for bigpharma companies and also private institutions such resorts and camps.

yeah.

fyi: avg. salary reported was $52k

28 reports: 19 full time nurses, 7 grad students, and idk about the rest

what happened to staycee. i thought she got in?
