I know posting things like this is obnoxious, but I really doubt I'll ever meet any of you. So I don't feel too bad posting it.

Grades are fine, but shouldn’t you have some volunteer experience in nursing before applying to the nursing program? They want to see that you have a good idea of what being a nurse is about, and that your reasons for pursuing nursing are backed up by real-life experience.

Thanks for the reply!

Oh yeah, sorry I wasn’t really specific in what I listed. I volunteer at the Children’s Recovery Center which is basically run by nurses. The center houses sick kids who are born with genetic problems and can’t live at home. And I want to be a nurse because I had a really bad experience with health care providers during some health problems of my own.

EDIT: Oh and I’m getting my letters of rec from my volunteer coordinator and my AP english teacher.

I think you’re good. My friend got around the same SAT score as you and had a lower GPA and got into the nursing program. btw - good choice! The nursing program babies you so much (in the best way possible) – you’ll always get into the classes you need :)

Your stats are great! I would have applied to UCLA’s nursing program, but my stats aren’t good enough and they don’t consider your alternate major if you don’t get into nursing unlike UCI. Good luck! :]

It is more like they accept 50 freshman students out of closer to 1,000 to 2,000 people. The nursing school’s acceptance rate is actually lower than the med school.

I’m a first year nursing student. What they are really looking for are students who are really passionate about nursing and really really know that they want to be nurses. Your grades, SAT scores, and extracurricular activities will really help you and will definitely be in your favor. Just make sure that your essay is amazing and really demonstrates how much you want to be a nurse and why you want to be a nurse.

Definitely mention stories or encounters with people that maybe inspired you to be a nurse or anything like that. I think that’s really important.

They only take 50 people and they really want to make sure that those 50 people will stay with the program and really really do want to be nurses.

I think you have a really really good chance of getting in the program! I really love it right now…the teachers are amazing, the dean is incredible, and the program is just wonderful!

good luck!

if you need any help or advice definitely pm me or something :)

Thanks so much for the posts guys! They really do help. (:
