I was wondering if there is anyone out there who is in the nursing program at fsu. Im applying to it and wondering how you like it. My stats are 28 ACT and 3.92 gpa.
Sciences at high school
AP Environmental
AP Bio
Bio Honors
Chem Honors
AICE Marine Science

Do you think I will have any problems getting into the program?

And I was wondering how does their program compare to other colleges? Anyone know of any websites where there are ratings for nursing programs.

This is the first year the FSU nursing school is doing the additional freshman admission screening for its limited access nursing program, so no one can share how it worked for them getting in previous years because this is the first year for the new set up at FSU. Getting in any nursing program is extremely competitive; if FSU admits you as a freshman into the program–go to FSU. If you go to another college, you’ll probably have to wait 2 years to reapply to the other college’s limited access program, so the advantage with FSU is you find out right from the get go and don’t have to worry about not getting in 2 years later at another college.

Not to be a downer, but you asked, and even though 28 is a good ACT score to gain regular freshman admission at FSU–it might not be good enough to get in nursing program now as a freshman in FSU’s nursing program. Just my opinion.

SAT 1710
ACT 25
Weighted GPA 3.7
It will be sorted by SAT/ACT score first, then by weighted GPA
Dual Enrollment/AICE/IB/AP courses are weighted up one letter grade for admissions
GPA calculations:
A = 5.0
B = 4.0
C = 3.0
D = 0.0
F = 0.0
If a student does not pass an AP test, they do not get college credit for the class, but their
GPA is still weighted by the grade they make. (An A is still weighted as a 5.0 even if the
AP test is not passes.) Students can take the SAT/ACT as many times as theyd like.
*Due to the high caliber of applicants, the minimum for those accepted for the Fall 2011
semester was a 4.0 GPA, 1710 SAT, and 26 ACT.

This is what I found on the website. I wonder how much it will go up this year.

The key word is “minimum” for what was accepted. That doesn’t mean that having better stats will get you in.

Like said above though, it’s impossible for people in the nursing program to tell you how difficult it is to get in or what your chances are if it is the first year they have done this new system.

Summer 2012 and Fall 2012 will be the second year that it has been direct entry, so obviously there are people who were accepted in 2011 to this program. Which means that there are people out there who can answer this post.

So minimum for fall 2011 is the lowest that was excepted…as you can see it was not the minimum to apply as those stats were shown at the top of the post.

Well I just found out that I was accepted to Pitt’s nursing program. Hopefully that is a good sign. Wondering if FSU is tougher to get into than Pitt’s nursing program.

Well Pitt says its the 7th rated nursing program in the country and they only accept 110 into their freshman class of which 30% of those are oos. So that really made me feel good about the chances of getting into FSU’s program. The other notable is that the dean of Pitt’s nursing program received her BSN from none other than Florida State. Interesting?
