My daughter is a junior in high school and wants to go directly into a BSN program. We are interested in finding out what nursing schools you would recommend -- west of the Mississippi. She has a 3.89 GPA, her PSAT score was only 173 but she did well on the PLAN and is intending to do the ACT in February. Any suggestions would be welcome! Thanks in advance...

Here are some to consider:

U Washington [School of Nursing | School of Nursing](http://nursing.uw.edu/)

U Minnesota [Academic Programs - School of Nursing, University of Minnesota](http://www.nursing.umn.edu/Education/home.html)

U Iowa [The University of Iowa College of Nursing](http://www.nursing.uiowa.edu/)

Creighton [School of Nursing :: Creighton University :: School of Nursing](http://www.creighton.edu/nursing/)

Oklahoma [The University of Oklahoma College of Nursing](http://www.nursing.ouhsc.edu/)

I think it might be difficult to directly enter a BSN program as most have pre-requisites. UW probably would be the most competitive.
West of the Mississippi: U Minnesota campus straddles the Mississippi.

Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI

[Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Viterbo University - La Crosse, Wis.](http://www.viterbo.edu/bsn/)

La Crosse, a border town with Minnesota, is located on the Mississippi river. Besides Viterbo there is also a Tech College and one of the UW campuses in La Crosse so a lot of college students. Additionally, there are 2 teaching hospitals in the city. One is affiliated with Mayo health system and the other is consistently rated one of the best health care systems in the country.

Can you afford the OOS cost of attendance?

The only school I’m familiar with that offers a BSN degree is California State University, Sacramento. But that’s because I have a nurse friend who got her BSN there, and haven’t actually searched for any BSN schools. I’m sure there are lots others.

Although it would be a BA in Nursing, I think the program offered by St. Olaf is worth lookingg at.

Yes, depending on the school… her Dad is obliged to pay a certain sum of $$ in the divorce agreement. Between that, financial aid, and what I can manage, we’re pretty sure we can pull it off… but we are from Canada (although I live here in the US with her) and we are not as familiar with US colleges as we are with Canadian schools. She could go to a Canadian uni, but prefers to stay here.

Thank you! this is a huge help!
