Hello, I had a quick question about the nursing science major at UC Irvine. On the description for applying to BS, the UCI website states that we have to complete “two years of high school laboratory science(biology & chemistry) – A minimum of a C grade is required for each laboratory course” for Admission Requirements and Enrollment Prerequisites. Does this mean that we have to have completed both biology and chemistry before senior year, or can we apply to this major even if we will be completing one of them in senior year (did bio in sophomore, AP Bio for junior yr, but will take chemistry in senior year)?
You will need to have the strongest application possible. What say you @Gumbymom? I would think it would be fine…
Be sure to have a lot of backups. If you havent seen the BSN direct admit thread, its worth a read. Getting into a CA state direct admit BSN program is pretty much a 3-4% acceptance rate. (Includes, UCLA, CSF, SDSU, and UCI) If you live within certain districts around CSSM (San Marcos) that could be a viable option.
I would try to have both Chemistry and Biology completed prior to Senior year if possible but in-progress Chemistry will be fine for Senior year. To be competitive for any program, you will want to go above and beyond the minimum a-g courses recommended. As @RNmomof4 stated, you want the strongest application possible not just with academics but EC’s and personal insight essays.
