Hi I have a 3.9 GPA and a 26 on my ACT. I am also volunteering at a hospital thins summer and Special Olympics. I have an A in AP psych and A&P if that matters. what are the chances I could get into the Delaware nursing program? is there a set acceptance rate? And how manny people apply for it? Thanks

Nursing and Chemical Engineering are the two most competitive majors for admission to UD. Each year UD gets 1500+ applications for Nursing, accepts about 300, to end up with a freshmen Nursing class of around 135. 2/3rds+ of the freshman Nursing class is made up of OOS students. The OOS acceptance rate for Nursing is a little below 20%, so it is highly competitive. Your GPA is very good and if you have taken a number of Honors/AP classes and done well in them this will certainly be in your favor.Your ACT is a litle on the low side however. Perhaps you might want to consider taking an ACT prep course and taking the ACT again. If you could improve your score to 28+ this really would probably really increase your odds for acceptance (but I think with the 26 you still have a shot). Make sure you list all your Nursing and associated EC experiences on your application. UD does place a greater emphasis on rigor of HS Curriculum (GPA, number of Honors/AP courses and grades in them, class rank, etc.) as compared to SAT/ACT scores (but of course the higher the better) in their admission decisions. Maintaining the rigor of courses in your Senior year is also very important. They like to see applicants take 5 major academic courses during both semesters of their Sr. year. They take a dim view of studnets who try and “coast through” their Sr. year. You might also want to consider scheduling an admission’s interview (not required but may be helpful in the decision process). Obviously none of these things can guarantee acceptance but I do think they can help maximize an applicant’s chances for acceptance. Hope this is info is helpful. Good luck.
