I was accepted into the nursing school. Anyone know anything about their program and the whole social scene at the nursing school? Is it mostly girls haha?

its pitt ;)

My D is a freshman this year in the college of nursing. There are about 10 guys in the program in her class. Not sure what you're wanting to know as far as "social scene" at the nursing school. She lives in the nursing living learning community (all girls) so they have some social activities they do. She hangs out with a couple of the guys that live on the floor above her that are in nursing.

As far as the program, it can be demanding taking 16-18 credits some semesters. If you have some AP credit or college credit you can apply toward some of the gen ed type classes that would help tremendously to lessen the load. I know it did for my D. I know a few people wanted to change majors after first semester because of the chemistry and anatomy classes. Not sure what else you want to know. You can ask more and I can try and answer them for you.

honestly,

if you go to Pitt to major in nursing and are a guy, best thing to do is pledge a fraternity. Yea yea I know........but a lot of frat's have engineering majors in a similar position.

plus, the GPA of frats @ pitt usually have higher gpa's then the average campus. For example, the frat im pledging has an average gpa of a 3.41, so.......cant go wrong there :)

the nursing curriculum at Pitt is very demanding. Taking the general requirements required outside of the nursing school affords the nursing student an opportunity to be in more equally balanced "co-ed" classrooms. The nursing students take most of their classes together with their classmates. However, they do have a choice with their select few electives. Taking APs in hs definitely help to lighten the load as the course load is heavy and demanding. Soph year the students clinicals require about 14 hours of hospital time. This is in addition to classes and labs. The nursing school is very highly ranked and excellent! Not all nursing students opt to live in the nursing housing. Many freshmen live in Towers and other various dorms. Living in Towers gives freshmen a chance to meet many kids.
