Recs: Counselor doesn't like me that much, but the other two should be great.
So will I be heading to Evanston in Fall 2010?
Thanks

nobody? :'(

hey man, you’re competitive. probably in ED. 50/50 otherwise. depends on your essays and teacher recs. the pool for asian males is extremely competitive, i imagine.

haha amen to that.
yeah i’m not applying ED, but you really think I’m 50/50? I didn’t think I was that good lol.

2220 is very competitive and you’re in the top 10%. your courseload is pretty good and your ECs are solid. i don’t know how good your recs and essays will be but if those are great, you’re in great shape.

any one else?
good shot…so can i reasonably expect to get in if my essays are good?
or is it still a crapshoot like hyps

Oh NU’s definitely more predictable but there are some anomalies every year. if you wanna check out last year’s RD thread, it’s here:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northwestern-university/675766-northwestern-rd-decisions-thread.html

thanks man! anyone else have an opinion?
Edit: oh man i looked through some of those rejected stats…not too encouraging. :(

Hi HonorsCentaur~
I know this time can be stressful…but you have worked hard, and you have what it takes to be seriously considered by the admissions dept. Hang in there-G’Luck! APOL

I wish NU offered EA…

Make sure you have a great “Why NU” essay. I think that’s part of what got me in. Have lots of specific details, and make sure it’s not the case that you could submit the same essay to a different college and switch out the name. For example, saying that NU has a beautiful campus (even though in this case is true ;)), could be said of pretty much any college, since it’s hard to prove/disprove. Talk about specific programs, or maybe residential colleges that you are interested in.

Overall, you seem like a solid candidate. Like brebeuff said, your SAT I score is pretty competitive. Your SAT II scores are a little low; you might want to consider taking some more and trying to get at least two around the 740+ range. Your AP scores are a little low for NU, but I’ve heard that AP scores don’t matter so much in admissions as the fact that you took the classes, so that might not be anything to worry about. Have you tried taking the ACT? It might be worth giving it a try, just to see how it compares to your SAT I score.

Your volunteer activities seem really unique and interesting. Translating abroad for the Olympics? How cool is that? Make sure you include that on your application.

Overall, I think you have a good shot. Good luck!

Wow thanks for the comprehensive response!
I’m actually gonna retake the AP World History and AP Microeconomics in hopes of 5 instead of 3’s. But too late in terms of admissions lol.
Yeah my SAT II USH is pretty low. :frowning: I’m considering retaking it, but I got a 5 on the AP so does that make up for it at all?
The ACT looks too hard, plus I like my SAT I score so I’m sticking with that.
And thanks again!
Oh and scheduling confict: I have AP stats not AP Calc and I have IB Math SL not IB Math Studies SL. Darned guidance counselors…

oh and does NU offer overnight stays?
