nw vs. uchicago

what are some of the differences between the schools?

Actually, I have been debating which of the two to apply to as well. I believe UChicago has a better reputation and perhaps better academics, but they are both excellent schools. I was debating because I'd like to major in economics or something business related. Although U Chicago is really the top in economics, I'm not sure its for me. I've spent my high school years studying my butt off and I visited northwestern- and I love it so much there. The campus is great. Beautiful, I just loved it. I was considering Uchicago but I haven't even visited so I'm not sure if its a good idea to just apply without visiting. Northwestern seems like a more pretty, laid back, nice place to be. I really like Evanston too.

yeah, i get the impression that uchicago is not as laid- back, but theyre both good schools... we could have a lot of responses to this haha...

even though tucker max went to uchicago, the social life is abismal. and that's all i know about it.

abysmal

Sorry, I'm a grammar freak.

And yeah, I really want a great social life in college after having a really boring high school existence :D

oh, right. i was debating whether it was i vs. y but i'm too lazy to check.

and you probably wouldn't want to go to uc then.

I've heard that U of C is very academic and scholarly, and that it's full of brilliant people, but that the student body does spend most of their time holed up with their books. However, I have never actually visited U of C, so I'm just going off of what I've heard. I do love that NU is at once very challenging academically, but also very laid-back and fun. I would pick NU any day. But then again, I do go here for a reason...

How about size of undergraduate student body, academic core curriculum, location (in the city vs. in the suburbs), accessibility to professors? There are differences, and you should also keep in mind the departments or areas of study you are considering when looking at these.

Chicago is supposed to be very intense. One person I know who grew up near it and considered going there referred to it as a pressure cooker. At times, the people burst. Only from there have I heard of people in the humanities stealing one another’s work by breaking into their offices (something that tends to happen only in the sciences). I'm not saying this is an everyday occurrence . . . frankly, I have no idea. But that it happens is probably a good indication that it is an intense school.

The school sounds very interesting, and many different types of people would love it their. Like all other schools, it isn’t for everyone, but for those of the “Chicago” type, guess where the best place to be is?
