Do you know how good is a score of 94 in NY reagent exam of chemistry this year?

It really doesn’t matter what the score is because it doesn’t get added into your GPA in any way. As long as you pass it, you’re good. It may come into play when you have reached the requirements for a special designation on your diploma–Regents with Mastery (85 average on all Regent’s exams) or Distinguished (90 average or above on all Regent’s exams).

Be happy with your score and leave it at that. Colleges are more interested in your classroom grade in the subject rather than the one Regent’s test score. GPA is more important than the test score.

If you do well on your Regents tests, and attend college w/in NYS, you might be awarded HESC scholarships:

My younger daughter gets $500 a semester for four years of college because of her Regents scores.

Good luck!

nysmile - that’s not true at our school. At our school the Regent’s test results are figured in as a fifth marking period. So they provided a useful bump up for a couple of courses for my kids where they were getting B’s in the course, but scored in the 90s on the exams. They also warned my older son who took the Regent’s Chem test after a CTY chem course that the score would appear on his transcript, though that one might not have gone into the GPA as he never took Regent’s chem. I think those Regent’s scholarships are only good if you go to school in state.

A 94 is a good score - I can’t find a state wide average, but scrolling through a data base our newspaper put together, there are lots of schools where hardly anyone gets over an 85. At our school only 17% did.

double post

The score is reported on the transcript. Depending on the way your school figures the grade in, the score may or may not affect your overall GPA. It’s the rigor of one’s high school curriculum (AP and Honors classes rank above Regent’s level) and GPA that will have more of an impact on college admission’s offices than the score on a Regent’s exam.

Yes, a 94% is a good score but it’s important to remember that many kids score above 90% on Regent’s exams.

Agree, Regents scores don’t mean much outside of NY but there are a few colleges that look at them. One that my D applied to actually had a scholarship based on them. At the SUNY school she attends her advisor waived a math prereq based upon her math coursework and Regents scores. But I doubt that would happen for a science class!

Per the chemistry teachers at our high school, this year’s chemistry regents was the hardest they’ve ever seen. A 94 is a good score!
