Did you read about the inflammatory mural there?

Yes, of course! I read the article before I posted it!

It’s all politics and it started a very long time ago. Jordan Harbinger podcast " Israel and Hamas" (episode 909) is an excellent overview of the situation. The podcast remains objective and is meant to fill in some history of the conflict and Gaza strip. Very informative and highly recommend.

Thanks - I downloaded it for listening during running/walking (over 2 days - it’s 1hr 14min length, likely thorough and helpful). I’ve been looking for some background on the issue.

I listened to the podcast today - it was really helpful. I do agree that beyond the militaries and the government are really a lot of humans who really would like to get along.

At church this fall we are doing a “season of peace” effort of readings, movies etc. At the end of the sermon yesterday the pastor described this encouraging story….

“The nurse then posted to Facebook asking more women to volunteer to help feed little Yamen, and more than 1,000 women responded that they would drive to the hospital to help.”

When will people realize that not all Palestinians and Muslims support Hamas? Many people are just normal peaceful folks who are just trying to live their lives. This is the problem with wars like this one, you have innocent people who are dying who don’t want war. There are perfectly nice, innocent Israelis and Palestinians who don’t deserve to die.

That may be true but I haven’t read or heard any pro-palastinian group or member of a group, random Muslim interviewed on the street, Muslim op Ed or the like where Hamas has been condemned for their barbarism. The owners of this restaurant have a political and inflammatory mural in their restaurant . Thousands across the globe are celebrating the killing of Jews in Israel. It’s not difficult to condemn evil.

Just to lighten the mood here a little bit - does this remind anyone else of “The Palestinian Chicken” episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm??

Maybe those people aren’t the ones being interviewed on the street. Not a very good idea to paint an entire group of people with the same brush.

I know it isn’t. I’m not saying what is going on in Israel is good. But, it’s good to remember that there are bad people in every religion. I have Muslim friends, they don’t support Hamas and they certainly don’t condone the killing of Jews or anyone. Yeah it know it’s not difficult to condemn evil…
Just because people haven’t spoken out, posted on social media or been interviewed doesn’t mean they condone what is going on. People deal with things like this in their own way. Just because they don’t post something on their Instagram doesn’t mean they aren’t supporting Israel, etc…

Also, the making generalizations about groups of people be it Jews, Muslims, Christians, etc goes both ways…

Looks like an interesting article! Thanks for sharing!

Yes I read that the other day. It’s his opinion. I don’t agree with it.

So the “silence is violence” mantra doesn’t apply here?

I don’t know…I just don’t think people should make assumptions based on what they hear in the media. And I don’t think people should assume that those who aren’t posting where they stand are being silent and condoning violence. Like the article says above, people need to be humble and admit they might be wrong. Also, there are two sides to every story.

This site has a 3 part podcast of the Palestinian - Israeli conflict.

It is a good basic introduction and seems very even handed. They are episodes 30-32 and are found half way down the page( at least for now )
