<p>All i can say is just wow. My school just performed the Crucible without a hitch, and i don't see much controversial about it.</p>
<p>I will say that it's helping me with my english research paper :)</p>
<p>It just boggles my mind that <em>anyone</em> would find something objectionable about "The Crucible" or, for that matter, "Grease." My guess is that most people who did/do object to "The Crucible" have never read or seen the play, and are basing their objections on what they have heard, which was probably inaccurate.
This discussion makes me feel fortunate to live where I live. No one raised a peep when my D's former hs announced it would be staging Chicago (in fact, people were excited!) and a neighboring all-boys' school staged Cabaret (with help from girls from sister schools). Other schools in the area have staged "The Laramie Project" and "The Crucible." No controversy that I have heard of.
Of course, if you consider one of the purposes of art is to make people think, talk, and discuss (or even debate!) then maybe these experiences have served a good purpose.</p>
