Heads up that the NYC Women’s March is scheduled for 1/19, the same weekend as NYC Unifieds, I believe. This is not to have a political discussion, just to plan accordingly. The march should start at Columbus Circle (near Central Park) and march down 6th Avenue. Most studios aren’t that far north or east in Manhattan, but if people are taking the train into Penn and walking all the way to the start of the march, there could be congestion, as several studios are near Penn Station. Or subways could be crowded depending on where you’re headed to/from.
Reserve your hotel as early as you’re able. This march typically brings hundreds of thousands of people into the city.
Latest news from the NYC Women’s March–Saturday 1/19. Most of the actual march is north and east of where most of the auditions should take place, but Ripley-Grier is kind of close, and both R-G and Pearl are on 8th, which could be a thoroughfare for women walking from Penn Station to the march. Also mass transit could be tied up so plan accordingly!
The latest map for the march puts the starting point at 71st and 8th (Central Park West), marching south to Columbus Circle, turning east and walking along 59th to 6th, then south on 6th to 43rd.
200,000 participants were at last year’s NYC march.
(I should have said ‘people’ walking to the march, not just women! Sorry!)
We had a nightmare Uber ride last year trying to get to D’s Marymount Manhattan audition the day of the march! In my travel planning, in which I thought I’d covered all possible scenarios, and padded in plenty of travel time between auditions, I did not realize getting across the city from D’s morning audition would be next to impossible. If we’d taken the subway, we would have been fine, but I didn’t know it would be a problem.
