NYC Private High Schools

I have recently found out that my Dad will be moving to NYC at the beginning of next school year. Before this news I was planning on applying to boarding schools for 9th grade and if I did not get in staying at my current day school for 9th grade as it is a K-9 school. Now that my Dad is moving to NYC I would like to look into some day-schools in New York as-well as boarding schools. I am looking for some school recommendations in New York that are around the same academic level as HADES boarding schools. I am a girl and am quite interested in girls-schools so that is definitely an option. So far my list of school ideas are
Brearley
Chapin
Spence
Dalton
Trinity

I understand that these schools will be hard to get into. I just need some opinions on these schools and also if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I would like to pick 3 NYC schools because I am planning on applying to quite a few B schools as-well.
Thanks

All of those schools are amazing. I would suggest going to Trinity, which has a stellar reputation, Chapin, or Spence. But then all of the schools you listed are some of the best in the City. You should also look at Horace Mann, Ethical Culture Fieldston, or Riverdale… the campuses they have are spectacular… Poly Prep is also a good one.

I agree with @zoe1998, you should consider one of the Hill schools (Horace Mann, Riverdale or Fieldston) Tell us more about what you’re looking for and what type of student you are - interests etc. My daughter went to one of the girls’ schools that you mention & you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Thanks for all the responses
I am looking for a school with strong academics but without being cutthroat, I also want a school with less of the mean girl stuff if possible. I am not really into sports but I do play Lacrosse and Squash just not that well. I am also a musician but not an artist. Also If I am very academic coming from a well respected independent school in ct with quite a few ECs what type of a chance do I have of getting in to one of the schools for 9th?

IMO the NYC private all girls schools are tougher to get into than any Prep School. The three you mentioned are like debating between BMW and Lexus. I don’t want to rain or your parade but hard to get into is putting it lightly. Suggestion only, look at the NYC schools but have boarding schools on your list as well. Yes, in a way I’m saying the boarding schools are more like your back up. Good luck!

If you don’t want cutthroat, you may not want Manhattan

Seriously though, these schools ARE very difficult to get into, so you should apply to a range, just like you would boarding school. Trinity and HM are known for being very challenging academically. Dalton and Fieldston are excellent as well, but less traditional. Those are arguably the top 4. Don’t apply to all of those.

The girls schools are all fantastic and IMHO equal in terms of quality of education. They may be a bit more difficult socially, but it depends more on the class than on the school. Coming from an independent school in CT, you may find the transition to be less of an issue.

Definitely consider Riverdale. For all of these schools that I have mentioned above, you will need HADES-level stats, no question. You should add a “back-up/safety” to your list, even though there is no such thing, in the same way that there isn’t such a thing for boarding school either. Packer, Trevor, Grace, Avenues, Friends, Nightingale…
