NYC Regents?

I saw some other threads on this topic but they were all at least 3 years old. Do colleges look at nyc regents? I'm doing well in my classes, but I got an 86 on my algebra regents. I'm not sure if i should bother retaking it.

Does NYC have different regents than NYS? My school has all of my regents grades on my transcript which colleges do look at. They might not weigh it heavily but if its on your transcript they will see it and its impossible for them to just ignore it.
That being said its only one regents grade out of about a dozen.

You might hear that because other states don’t have regents, colleges dont look at it, but schools have readers that focus on specific regions and become familiar with what those schools offer so they will know what that 86 means in context.

Also every school is different. I imagine suny and cuny schools would look at them more but that is only my own speculation.

No the regents are the same throughout NY. It is considered a mastery grade, it’s just not a grade i’m satisfied with.

My regents exams are terrible, but my grades for classes aren’t. But, I’m just not a good test-taker, I don’t think colleges will mind that much. The Algebra regents are really easy to take and have a huge curve, I think 30 points is a 65. If you want to take them again then you should but it might be too late in January

No, it will not make a difference.

it is on your transcripts but I don’t think any schools will consider it besides cunys (and macaulay honors) because 95% of the students they accept are in-state students so regents grades are actually comparable. if you apply to anywhere far from NY, they probably don’t even know what the regents is let along how to compare it to their own state exams.

How much will good regents grades help you though? I’ve consistently scored above 93 on all my Regents exams, including classes I’ve ended up with mid 80 averages. Lowest ever regents score was 91, English.

Will this positively benefit applying to schools near New York where the admission counselors have experience with this stuff?
