On Sunday, August 19th at 3pm, the UVA Club of New York will be hosting a send-off party for incoming First Year students in Central Park. We'll have pizza and soda as well as UVA gear for you guys. It's a great chance for you all to meet fellow New Yorkers in your class. Alumni will also be present to answer any questions. Plus, our weekly softball game will start at 4pm. Anyone who wants to play is free to do so. Parents are also welcome to come!

If you plan to attend, RSVP to uvanyc@uvanyc.org in order to get the exact location and directions.

ehhh, an open bar in the actual UVA club would be much cooler!

I agree, Untilted, but it probably won't happen. Let's just chug a bottle of JD when we get back to school ;) .

Chugging Jack has always led me to dangerous situations. I'll just chug my Bacardi instead.

If yr gonna drink rum, at least step up to Mount Gay or something. Rum is kinda gross though.

I prefer Captain Morgan, but there's only Bacardi around.

Just to be on topic, who is thinking about going?

Untilted, yeah, it would be much cooler, but we can't give alcohol to underage students. Are you in NYC right now? You know, there are Summer Happy Hours every Thursday at the Clubhouse from 6-9pm. A lot of UVA, Yale, and Dartmouth folks go every week. Plus, there's an ACC Happy Hour on Wednesday, August 18th at Red Sky.

no man, i got stuck in DC this summer. I did go to NYC twice already and i'm going again this weekend. I will definitely apply for a memership @ uva club next summer to take advantages of the alumni network, gym and the happy hour.

Yeah, you should. The Club is fun. If all your college friends join, then it becomes like Cheers where everyone knows your name. Plus, as a member you get to stay at exclusive clubs around the world, and some of them are cheaper than staying at comparable hotels. There are like 7 clubs to choose from in London. One in the French Riviera. One in Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris, Madrid, etc.

When I go to DC, I stay at the Cosmos Club. To be a member of that club, you had to have won a Pulitzer, Nobel or equivalent prize, but guess what, due to our reciprocal privileges, we get to stay and use their facilities too. It's funny. Some alums living in London join the UVA Club of NY in order to use the various clubhouses in London.

Not quite. It's a bit less selective than that.

mmm, sounds pretty cool.

Cav, yeah, if they kept their membership to only those few people, they wouldn't have that much of a membership pool at all. If you go to their Awards Room, they display all the members who have won Nobels, Pulitzers, etc. I guess that makes it seem like everyone there has won some sort of accolade.

only 100 dollars for interns in the summer, including full use of the gym! that's cheaper than any other gym membership.

the application will be the first thing on my list once I'm 21. ;)

I never even been to NYC before, but this alum club sounds freaking sweet.

It's cool, but it's not really ours. sigh

Eh, I actually like sharing a clubhouse with Yale and Dartmouth. It keeps things interesting. When I joined 10 years ago, we had most of the young members and the pretty girls. (It's good to know that UVA's beautiful people reputation follows you well after you graduate.)

I used to go to the interclub meetings, and they were comprised of really old white male Yale and Dartmouth fogeys, while all the UVA members were young and diverse. Half were women, with a few minorities, and a few gays. For once, UVA kids were the liberals compared to the Yalies. Ha!! Those were the days.

Things have gotten much better though, and there are now a lot more young Yalies and Dartmouth grads at the Club.

well if im ever in nyc for an extended period of time i'll look it up.
