I’m visiting Bard this week and will be dropping into NYC and making my way up to Bard via public transportation. How difficult is it? I know you take Amtrak from Penn Station to Rhinecliff, but then what? It’s still pretty far from campus isn’t it? Any advice?

Our son has happily used Red Hook Taxi (phone number is 845-758-1478) Between Bard Student Center to Rhinecliff Train Station the fare is $20 cash only plus tip. There is a cash machine at the student center and others along the way. Advance reservations are appreciated even if calling from the train just a few hours in advance. Around vacation time reservations are advisable because of a shortage of taxis.

There are Bard Holiday & Weekend shuttles to the train station at Rhinecliff (also at Poughkeepsie). Don’t know if a visitor is allowed to use them or if they run when you need them. I guess you should ask the Admissions Office.

Our son has thrived at Bard and loved it. Hope you have a good visit and get a good sense of whether Bard is right for you.

Rhinecliff is only a 15 minute drive from campus. As mommybird said, you should call Red Hook Taxi or even Kingston Kabs (845 758 8294) to take you to the campus.
