Nyc transfer schools

My family is planning to move to New york, more specifically the outskirts of the actual city like Yonkers or White plains. I currently attened Penn state but my mom suggests that I try to find city schools that i can commute like 40 min to and save money on room and board/out of state costs that id have to pay in psu. Any suggestions for good transferrable schools in Manhattan, other than Nyu, hunter, pace, city college(already looking at those). I’d just like to have a broader list so when it comes down to it I can have backups. My goal is city schools but ill also look at outer city schools like Stony brook that are cheap. Thanks in advance!

Also if theres any good manhattan public school(s) any of you guys know of can you list them also please thanks

What are you studying? The 4 year CUNY’s in Manhattan are Hunter, Baruch and City College. There is CUNY Lehman in the Bronx, which is a short commute from Yonkers and not much longer from WP. There is SUNY Purchase outside WP. There are private schools - Iona, Mercy, Sarah Lawrence in Westchester, Marist as well, although I think that it’s in Dutchess County. There are many other schools.

I can try to give you some guidance but you need to share more info - what are you studying? what year are you in? might you be eligible for transfer scholarships?

Yea i shouldve given more info - im studying biology , im currently a freshman in college & idk yet i havent even started my first year yet , so more into the year i will start applying and seeing what im eligible for. Thank you

I will apply for some during the year, but i wont know till i finish all my classes hopefully with good grades and apply to the ny schools

@jae1189, CUNY-City College has a Physician Assistant Program (now a grad program) and it is significantly less expensive than Pace University. CUNY-York College also has a PA program, which is approximately the same cost as CCNY. Both programs, up until the spring of 2016, was a bachelor’s degree program. If you are in the NYC, you should pay both school a visit as possible targets for your undergraduate/PA degrees. Both schools have an excellent pass rate on the PA exam.

Thank you so much! Yea pace is super expensive, its just a back up option if i get good scholarships. also Is city college’s like a 5 year pa program or is it only a grad program?

Its actually even more lengthy and rigorous than pace’s pa program. Paces is around a year while city college’s is 2 and a half years so thanks again for putting that

Actually Pace’s PA Program is a 26-months graduate program, while CCNY’s program is 28-months. Pace U do have a 12-month program for licensed PAs with Bachelor’s degree who wish to pursue their MSPAS.

Cost: Pace ~$100K (Tuition & Fees); CCNY ~$42K (Tuition & Fees).

oh ok that makes sense, cause I saw the one year program and I was like why is it so short.

Since you’ll have a year of college when you transfer, you need to know if you’ll qualify for aid. Many transfers don’t. How much is your total budget? I thought on your other thread you said it was $16k/year. You need to find out if SUNY and CUNY consider you a state resident or an OOS student because Stony Brook’s OOS tuition is ~$22k.

According to the [residency requirements*](NYS Residency | Student Financial Services), it looks like you’ll be considered an OOS student at SUNY unless you’ve lived in NYS for 12 months before the end of the registration period for the current school year. If you attend Penn State for a year, you’ll have lived in NYS for ~3 months when the 2017-2018 school year starts.

Ok thanks alot- i like psu & they’re good with my major so when my parents do move i’m probably going to use my aunts address for mail since she’ll still be in pa or if i find a ny school i really like then i would just transfer junior yr when its been a yr since my parents moved.

Lehman has an excellent nursing program, not sure about PA, but you might be able to do prereqs at CUNY tuition, which is about $6K/year in state and $16K out of state, a bit less than SUNY. There is very little dorming there, though if you live in Yonkers, it’s a relatively short commute. If you attend a CUNY for a year, you might be able to get residency, but check the rules.

ok i will check thank you
