NYC Unified Walk-In Question?

Can you do a walk-in for a school that requires pre-screens? ( which you haven't done!)

Yes; for schools that have walk-ins available but had a pre-screen requirement, you do not have to have passed the pre-screen in order to audition.

It depends on the school. Some schools’ academic application deadlines will have already passed, so those schools do not allow walk-ins. My D had already passed a pre-screen for Penn State but when we realized they were taking walk-ins at NY Unifieds, we felt it meant a lot less.

Shaun0203, I suspect that the walk-in auditioners at Unifieds are generally a cut above the kids who don’t pass a pre-screen. In many cases they will have already passed pre-screens for other schools. They are well-informed and brave and determined!

I may be getting this jumbled, but I think there was at least one school last year that accepted walk-ins at Unifieds as a FORM of prescreen–in other words, if you “passed” the walk-in, you were invited to audition on campus. Does that ring any bells, or am I making this up? :)

Yes, some of the schools use a walk in at Unifieds as a pre-screen, although it does vary from school to school, and even year to year, especially with the programs that are getting more popular. But the other poster was also correct in saying that, for some schools, if the academic application deadline had passed and the student had not yet applied, they won’t take you as a walk-in. They will take kids that maybe had another time for an audition scheduled but wanted to do the walk-in instead.

Times3 I think you are thinking of Oklahoma, they use the unified audition as a press ere and, if they like you, invite you to campus. Does that sound right?

Could be! The one I heard about (and another mom confirmed it for me) was Otterbein, last year at chicago Unifieds. Same kind of deal as you describe, cellomom, at least according to what I heard.

Times3- I think there was some conversation about Pace in that regard? Not sure if they have changed their process this year, but it created some concern last year
