Hello!

I’ve heard that other schools are available though not listed officially as participated in NY unifieds. Is this true and if so does anyone know what schools and how to find them??
Thanks!

The “consortium” schools will be there at Ripley Grier Studios, 520 8th. They are UNCSA, Carnegie Mellon, Purchase, and BU. The dates may vary somewhat.

My son has an audition for USC on Saturday at the Doubletree, 1568 Broadway. Also Rutgers, somewhere nearby. One of his friends has some auditions at New York City schools this same weekend.

Any others?

DePaul also holds auditions at Ripley-Grier, Friday through Sunday.

Also, there are a bunch of other schools that piggy-back off of Unifieds and have a presence to take advantage of the situation without being Unified schools. DePaul, MaryMount Manhattan, Julliard and Fordham are some schools that were holding auditions last year during Unifieds. Strange enough NYU was not available last year and we had to do the audition in Atlanta instead of NY. Go figure. Check with schools you are interested in and see if they are scheduling auditions during this time frame. Remember though to ask any of these non Unified schools how long their auditon will take. I know DePaul & Marymount were three hours each and my D’s friend made it through the entire Julliard process which went from 8am - 8pm. Scheduling can be tricky.

^^DePaul asks students to reserve a longer block of time (8-2 or 1-6) in case they make it to the callback phase. (Twelve hours for Juilliard?? amazing!).

I would be interested to know which, if any, of these schools actually did still have available audition times.

My D’s friend told us at that the Juliard audition consisted of multiple levels of cuts. The longer you could survive the cuts, the longer the audition. In the end only a couple of kids ended up being invited back for another round of on-campus auditions later in the month. Unreal process.

DePaul also had at least one cut round. Since my D was cut we left. Those that made it through that round needed to stay longer. Since you need to go into any interview with confidence that you won’t be cut definitely schedule the full amount of time.

I’m just guessing, but perhaps the reason someone could not schedule an NYU audition during Unifieds was that those spots all filled up early. The most desirable dates for NYU get snapped up fast. Auditions at NYU can be scheduled before the application is submitted, and it is a good idea to schedule them first and then work your other auditions in around it.

We will be in NYC for my son’s Marymount Audition on Sat. and Purchase on Sunday. We hope to get in some walk-ins at Unifieds too. I did get buy one get one free tickets for Nice Work If You Can Get It, it was a good deal. I recommend the show Once- we saw it this summer and it was wonderful. Break a leg everyone!

Of course, my son is SICK. Took him to the drs today, got all the drugs I can think of and hoping he is back to himself within the next 48 hours. Ugh.

Been there photomom5. Adrenaline is a powerful drug. I know my daugther could not have done a 5 hour rehearsal on the day of her CMU audition but a good adrenaline charge got her through 15 minutes. Best of luck.

Thank you, ActingDad. He is currently asleep next to me…is on a boatload of meds, including prednisone, so hopefully, will feel much better shortly! His voice is so deep he does not even sound like himself!

I guess he’ll fit the “bass” type now? Seriously, I hope he feels way better. We’ll all be thinking of everyone this weekend and sending good thoughts.

Quietly freaking out…besides my son being sick, our early morning flight was just cancelled…has anyone heard of weather issues in NYC? Tomorrow morning? Trying to figure out if we should just take the train (I am having deja vu from 2 years ago…).

Ugh. Can’t imagine dealing with an airport on top of everything else. Hope you get on another flight okay. It has been drizzly rain constantly but have not heard of any major issues.

Sorry to say we are getting extreme wind and rain up here in the Northeast. The storm is similar to a Spring storm from what they are saying. It is supposed to be here in Boston - high gusts and downpours from about 6am thru 9am, and be totally out to sea by 10am. NYC will probably be getting that extreme pocket of weather in the middle of the night into the early morning.

You may just have to postpone your flight for a few hours until the wind gusts pass. I’m sure you will get into NYC tomorrow at some point!

There is supposed to be heavy winds and rain this evening though tomorrow morning. It’s a weather advisory.

I don’t know where you live, but if you can, take the train!

Well, we have train and plane reservations…one way or another, we will be there!

Weather is beautiful here in NY. It was a very windy evening and I think the flights were canceled in anticipation of a bad morning but as of right now the wind is nothing extraordinary and it’s supposed to get better (but colder) as the day goes on. I think you’ll be fine flying.

Good luck!

About 60 miles west of NYC the wind is still howling.

Big storms in Virginia last night–trees down, no power, and an Amtrak train lingering on tracks near our house for awhile as tracks were repaired…but we just boarded an on-time train in Richmond, where the skies are blue and the wind has quieted, so I’m hopeful that we’ll have no delays en route to NYC. Safe travels and great auditions to all!
