Also wanted to wish you all luck! We had an incredible experience at last year’s NY Unifieds – and the results truly changed my son’s life. Wishing you all the best. Knock 'em dead.

I just responded to this in the MT forum but might as well do it here too, since I’m doing both acting and MT programs -
I’m going! Getting there by train (I live in Long Island). I’m staying with my aunt who lives in Nassau county (I live at the far east end of Suffolk county, so this is a bit easier). I’m auditioning for U of Buffalo (MT), UNCSA (AT), Syracuse (AT), and Depaul (AT). Break legs everyone :)

So excited to hear back on everyone’s adventures!! Break legs to all!! <3

We’re going to be in NY Thursday night and Friday but not at Unifieds. D is auditioning for the biggest long shot there is… Juilliard.
(Going to Chicago Unifieds.)

My D has a friend auditioning for Juillard this weekend too! Break legs to your D!!!

I’ll be at Unifieds this weekend!

I’m taking a train in from DC scarily early tomorrow morning and staying at Pod 51.

Thursday: I’m auditioning for CalArts at 2 and hoping to squeeze in a Rutgers walk in either Thursday morning or Friday afternoon if I don’t get a callback for Juilliard.

Friday: Juilliard

Saturday: U of M/Guthrie
Southern Methodist University
Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (walk in)

Sunday: Carnegie Mellon

Just finished packing and I’m super excited to hit the road and start doing these auditions! Hope to see some CCers at the auditions. Break legs everyone!

Josh, since SMU does not get a lot of talk here, it’s been years since i’ve been on campus but in the past, it was lovely, it’s in one of the nicest parts of Dallas and Dallas would be a decent place to go to college. my guess is the campus is still lovely. looking at ur selections, i doubt it is ur first pick but just wanted to pass on some first hand info on the campus and Dallas.

Thursday Rutgers Mason Gross
Friday Juilliard
Saturday UNCSA
Sunday Ithaca and U of Miami
We are local.
Best of luck everyone. Have fun!

Thanks for the info, it seems like it would be a nice place to live. I did a preliminary audition for them last June and talked with the head of drama for about a half hour about the program, theatre, and life in general. It seems like an awesome program. Very well rounded with great non-preset study abroad opportunities! They operate similerly to BU with the Theatre Arts option. I will definitely visit the campus and sit in on classes if I get in!

My D will be there auditioning for BFA Acting programs this weekend. My sister is taking her and they’ll be flying in from Denver on Friday and staying at the New Yorker.

She’ll be auditioning on campus at Pace on Saturday morning. For Unifieds, she has Roosevelt on Sunday morning and Montclair Sunday afternoon. She was supposed to be auditioning for UArts as well but they were booked up and said they would put her on a waitlist for auditions. She may also try to do a walk-in or two.

This is exciting! I can’t believe she’s actually at this point in the process. Break a leg to everyone!

Neat find! The New York Public Library system has a branch dedicated to the performing arts. It’s a part of Lincoln Center. They have huge collections of scripts, music, dances, recordings of Broadway shows, etc. If your not from NY you can still visit a NY library and look around, browse some items.
I’ve often gone to the main branch of the library to hang out. Free wifi, quiet, access to bathrooms! But I didn’t know about this performing arts branch. Check their website for more info if you’re interested. I’m all geeked out about this find. :-)

Can someone explain how walk-ins work? How can you tell what colleges are available and where to go? I’m confused!

Many have signs. A few even had kids walking the halls looking for walk-ins. Basically, you go up to the table and ask. Sometimes, even if they don’t officially take walk-ins they will see you if they have time. Sometimes there’s a fee. Sometimes not. I think most will then ask you to apply to the school after your audition but I’m not sure if all do that. My kids were somewhat walk-in challenged and very picky. But, others seem to get a kick out of doing as many as possible. Good luck.

Flossy, I’m still confused I meant where exactly do you go for these? What building? My S has two scheduled auditions, one on Friday, and one on Saturday for Royal Welsh. He’s not doing Unifieds. We thought since he was already there on Saturday, however, he could do walk ins if they were available. But I don’t understand how you know where they are! Like, what address.

BTW, on the topic of seemingly micromanaging questions, I just want to put out there that this is my third child I’m doing this with, yet we’ve never done walk ins and here I am asking questions maybe other people think are obvious. Thanks in advance for being such a helpful community.

The address for the NY Unifieds is Pearl Studios, 500 8th Avenue.

Thanks, Prodesse! I knew the address for Unifieds, but aren’t walk-ins not just for colleges at Unifieds? I thought you could do walk-ins for other colleges as well. That’s my confusion. This year, there aren’t that many colleges signed up for Unifieds. But there are many colleges that are not signed up for Unifieds that are definitely going to be doing auditions in NYC this weekend. So my question is where are these colleges holding auditions? An example is Royal Welsh. Although my S has a scheduled audition, I know people who have done a walk-in. Like many colleges, they are in NYC this weekend, but not at Unifieds. How do people know where these colleges are located? Are they also at Pearl Studios? Thanks again!

Connections - Check the websites of the schools you are interested in. We didn’t do NYC, but in LA many who were not officially Unified members were at the same hotel. It’s a crowd of tables, brochures, and audition rooms. A few were down the street in another hotel. My guess is the ones wanting walk-ins would be at Pearl, since that’s where the people are. But, that is a guess.

Thinking positive thoughts for everyone auditioning this weekend! Josh-if you have questions about SMU, you can PM me; I am familiar with the program as well as the school. Break a leg, all, have fun and let us know how it went!

Okay…we are in NYC, staying at a Hilton Garden Inn. Rooms are clean and they have a fridge and microwave. I like that. Today was
Juilliard…long day, but S didn’t make the callback. Said it was a
great experience, though…and he
felt good about it as a first
audition. Excited to hear how it
goes for Josh. We misses NYU
because of a cancelled flight on
Tuesday. We will try to squeeze it
in on another day.

Fri. Boston
Sat. Purchase and Fordham
Sun. Two different Pace programs
Mon. Homework…LOL
Tues. Rutgers
Wed. LAMBDA

Thursday HOME!!!
