I would recommend to participate in school clubs as well as activities outside of school such as volunteering in the hospital, scientific research, etc. For school, it is good to have a 3.7+ GPA and high SAT/ACT score.

Are AP exam scores important?
As long as you can maintain a 4.0 in the first year, the rest is pretty easy if you keep up with the work.
The culture at NYIT is friendly and helpful, so you can ask for help whenever you need or want it.

I did take several AP classes but not the exams. Scoring a 4/5 on the AP exams is like an addition to the application.
