Today in class a few students (me included) were given a packet by our teacher about a 10 day summer program in D.C. - the National Young Leaders Conference (by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council).

Seems interesting enough - spend time in Washington doing lots of political activities, gain leadership skills, meet new people...

I was wondering, is this a well known thing? Is it an honor to be invited to do it? Is it a ripoff? Has anyone done it?

And just out of curiosity, why would my bio teacher pass it out? Was he asked by the school/NYLC?

Thanks for your thoughts.

It's a good program but it costs a lot of money. It may be worth it if you haven't been to DC before, and there are kids there that are relatively intelligent- so you'll have some good political discussions if you're interested in that sort of thing. I liked it, however meeting a hot girl there may have influenced that opinion (there is a dance on the last day).

Eh, politics aren't really my forte. It costs a lot less than college summer school programs, but then again it's much shorter. I think I'll pass it up.

sounds like a wise idea. Though I liked it, I prob would have rather done something else, like a Brown summer program, instead.

It's not really that big an honor, but I went and I loved it.

It does cost a lot of money but I had a lot of fun there and learned a ton of stuff.

I'd love to do a college summer program, however all but 2 weeks of my summer are filled! Ah, maybe next year :)
