Ok....so National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine just sent me an invitation. This is for next summer, but I am not sure whether I should attend. Is it worth the week of my summer, and how much does it help my college admission chances?

I am also thinking of applying to DID NYLF as well, but I don't know how good these will be for my application. I know, doing everything for college apps is bad, but i want to spend my time (and MONEY!) wisely. Please advise me =) Thnx in advance.

I did do NYLF in Medicine, and while it was an enjoyable week, it's not going to count jack on your application for anything other than showing you have some interest in Medicine. NYLF basically takes whoever can fork over the cash, and once you finish the program, you're asked to "nominate" more students for the program and teachers who can also "nominate" other students. The speakers were pretty lame in general, and I think there may have been two real MDs the entire time, the rest were holistic medicine people, horse doctors, acupuncturists, and other crazies. The info I learned probably could fit on a 3x5 card. Still, it was a relaxing week at the Sheraton, and I had plenty of quiet time to read and rest. The cost of the entire program is something like half of what a week at the Sheraton would normally cost, so it seems like a deal to me.

Bottom line: It sure beats moping around the house.

i went to the NYLF medicine also at georgetown also ... and I totally agree with nikewooshguy. It was not worth the 2 grand (plus airfare). you could get the same experience at a local hospital volunteering. The only good thing about it was that i got to visit the college that i want to go to.

If you're loaded and have nothing better to do, go ahead. Basically everyone's invited, so don't put "invited to NYLF conference" on your application or anything.

its worth nothing. you get invitations to places like this by marking yes to whether or not you want to suscribe to the collegeboards mailing lists. dont waste your money, buddy. don't do it and i'd reccommend you "nominate" your friends to do the same.
