NYLF..? worth it?

Hey guys,
I'm a sophomore and I got a invitation to participate in the national youth leadership forum on medicine this summer. Is this a good program? Have any of you attended? Does it look good on these combined med program applications? If I dont attend this summer I can attend in the summer of my junior year right? Hope someone on CC has attended or is familiar with the program.. thanks guys! :)

I went to NYLF. It's worth it for the experience. Not much more. It's not hugely prestigious, because basically anyone can do it and your going to find a bunch of rich kids on vacation there. It looks good for combined med program applications because it is another medical related experience and shows dedication. It's not a must have however for your application. If you have the money and the time, then go for it. But don't expect it to be really prestigious. I had a fun time last summer when I went after my junior year. You can go as an incoming junior or incoming senior.

I didn't go there due to the financial reason. I didn't want to spend $2000 or more just to put one more thing on my resume. However, it might look good on your resume. I personally wouldn't go there, but rather, I'd do some other productive things, such as internship, paid work, volunteer work, etc.

i agree. my counselor told me that if i were selected for this program and if they were offering me a scholarship, then nylf is worth it. because nylf is open to almost any one who can afford to pay the cost, then it is best to do something else, as djthal suggested.

It's a lot of fun and a great experience. However, don't expect it to be a highlight of your college application.

I agree with studyguy

it's waste of money.
