Matching Private School Insiders and Parents

This outfit claims to help with boarding school admissions as well. At first I was angry, now I just feel very sad for the schools that are being betrayed by their board members.

Neither she nor her husband was from Manhattan. They knew no trustees at the school and had no connections. She did not even have a friend at the school to call.

So she phoned one of the schools board members, who gave her information about the admissions directors personality, the schools culture and the kind of tone the school looks for in the application letter. The trustee also looked over her essay.

Then the woman handed over $1,250 for the advice.

Test prep too! (Aside to ExieMITalum: OMG)

George Davison, head of school at Grace Church School in Greenwich Village, said he saw the test scores of applicants to his school this year rise 15 percent from the year before, which he attributed to preparation services. As a result, the school now gives less weight to the test.

He is skeptical about the business of offering insider advice at high prices.

LOL! Yep - scary huh? Next these same parents will be suing the schools when their darlings don’t get into Harvard.

Know what? Those “kids” are the most miserable in boarding school because of the pressure they feel from the parents who are still “intervening.” I know a student who got yelled at by her parents for getting a 92 on her first test (as a new student) and thus (they felt) screwing up her IVY league chances.

I don’t give a rats butt if my D goes to an IVY. I just want her to be healthy, happy and fulfilled in her life.

Just read the article. A board member selling access? A company that allows them to remain anonymous to even the client? OMG is right.

Truly unbelievable.

At some point the next generation needs to learn to accept responsibility for themselves -which involves making grades, studying for tests, doing their own laundry,
applying/getting accepted to schools…

All of which will never happen with this kind of high pressure parenting.

Ladies, if there was a “like” button for the three of you & your comments above, I would push it!

This article is fascinating! What I think I like best is how the head of school said that now his school gives the test scores less weight…I wish they all would do that!! It seems unfair that private schools judge you on standardized tests and secret handshake. At least this company has brought the problem to light…
